Does the radio briefly display CLN TAPE when a tape is inserted?

Using the test tape from J 39916-A , perform the motor speed test, following the instructions in the kit.

Is the tape speed within the allowable limits?

Play a known good tape in the player and determine if the output is garbled or distorted. The speaker test tones included in J 39916-A test tape may be used to help identify a problem.

Is the audio quality OK?

  1. Clean the tape heads using the tape cleaner included in J 39916-A .
  2. After cleaning, reset the tape clean meter (CLN) display if present, by pressing the cassette eject control for 5 seconds.
  3. Play a known good tape.

Is the audio quality OK?
