Does the CD player skip or mute?

--

Go to Step 3

  1. On the skipping or muting CD, inspect for the following conditons:
  2. • Proper insertion
    • Scratches
    • Dirt
    • Fingerprints
  3. Clean the CD player, if necessary.
  4. The condition may be normal if caused by rough roads.
  5. Attempt to duplicate on a good road surface.
  6. Perform the test using a known good disc.
  7. Some discs may contain marks that make 1 track or the entire disc unplayable.

Does the system operate properly?

The CD player displays ERR or the disc ejects.

  1. The ERR displays when the following conditions occur:
  2. • You insert the disc upside-down.
    • The disc has scratches.
    • The disc is dirty.
    • The disc is wet.
  3. Moisture condenses on the disc when you do the following:
  4. • You insert a cold disc into a hot CD player.
    • You insert a hot disc into a cold CD player.
  5. Allow up to an hour in order to evaporate the condensation.
  6. Insert a known good disc into the CD player in order to perform the inspection.
  7. Explain to the customer that very high internal instrument panel temperatures may cause the CD to eject.
