Removal Procedure

    Caution: This vehicle has energy-absorbing foam blocks for side impact protection. To help avoid personal injury in a collision, foam blocks that are damaged, or removed during repairs must be replaced. Failure to replace foam blocks that are removed can violate federal law.

  1. Remove the trim panel. Refer to Front Side Door Trim Panel Replacement .
  2. Remove the water deflector. Refer to Front Side Door Water Deflector Replacement .
  3. Remove the window regulator. Refer to Front Side Door Window Regulator Replacement .

  4. Object Number: 315721  Size: SH
  5. Remove the energy absorber pad screw.
  6. Remove the energy absorber pad from the door.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 315721  Size: SH
  1. Install a new energy absorber. Peel off the double backed tape protective backing and position the absorber in the door.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the energy absorber pad screw.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the energy absorber pad screw to 2 N·m (18 lb in).

  5. Install the window regulator. Refer to Front Side Door Window Regulator Replacement .
  6. Install the water deflector. Refer to Front Side Door Water Deflector Replacement .
  7. Install the trim panel. Refer to Front Side Door Trim Panel Replacement .
