Brake Warning Indicator Inoperative Low Brake Fluid

Turn the ignition switch to RUN position.

Is the BRAKE warning indicator on?

  1. Disconnect the brake fluid level indicator switch.
  2. Connect a 3A fused jumper between the brake fluid level indicator switch terminal B (circuit 209 (PPL)) and terminal A (circuit 1550 (BLK)).
  3. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.

Is the BRAKE warning indicator on?

Replace the brake fluid level indicator switch. Refer to Brake Fluid Level Indicator Switch Replacement .

Is the repair complete?

System OK

Test for a poor connection or an open between the brake fluid level indicator switch connector terminal A (circuit 1550) and ground.

Is there a poor connection or an open in circuit 1550?

--

Go to Step 5

Go to Step 6

Repair a poor connection or an open in circuit 1550.

Is the repair complete?

  1. Connect the scan tool to the data link connector (DLC).
  2. Go to Special Functions.
  3. WOW the instrument cluster.

Is the BRAKE warning indicator light on?

--

System OK

Go to Step 4

Replace the instrument cluster. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console.

Is the repair complete?

--

Go to Step 5

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
  2. Reconnect the connectors and reinstall the components that were removed.

Is the repair complete?

Turn the ignition switch to RUN position.

Did the BRAKE warning indicator on for 3 seconds during bulb test?

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
  2. Disconnect the park brake indicator switch connector.
  3. Connect a 3A fused jumper between the park brake indicator switch harness connector terminal A (circuit  1830 (LT BLU)) and ground.
  4. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.

Is the BRAKE warning indicator on?

Replace the park brake indicator switch. Refer to Parking Brake Indicator Switch Replacement .

Is the repair complete?

Go to Diagnostic System Check - Instrument Cluster in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
  2. Using a 3A fused jumper, backprobe from the automatic headlamp control module connector C2, terminal E (circuit  1830 (LT BLU)) to ground.
  3. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.

Is the BRAKE warning indicator on?

Go to Step 6

Repair a poor connection or an open in circuit 1830 (LT BLU) between the automatic headlamp control module connector C2 terminal E and the park brake indicator switch connector terminal A.

Is the repair complete?

--

Go to Diagnostic System Check - Instrument Cluster in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
  2. Using a 3A fused jumper, backprobe between the automatic headlamp control module connector C2 terminal D and ground.
  3. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.

Is the BRAKE warning indicator on?

Replace the automatic headlamp control module. Refer to Headlamp Control Module Replacement .

Is the repair complete?

--

Go to Diagnostic System Check - Instrument Cluster in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
  2. Using a fused jumper, backprobe between the body control module (BCM) connector C1 terminal D5 (circuit 233 (ORN/BLK)) and ground.
  3. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.

Is the BRAKE warning indicator on?

Go to Step 10

Repair the poor connection or open in circuit 233 (ORN/BLK) between automatic headlamp control module connector C2 terminal D and the BCM connector C1 terminal D5.

Is the repair complete?

--

Go to Diagnostic System Check - Instrument Cluster in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console

  1. Replace the BCM. Refer to Body Control Module Replacement in Body Control System.
  2. Perform the Setup New BCM procedure. Refer to Body Control Module (BCM) Programming/RPO Configuration in Body Control System.

Is the repair complete?

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
  2. Reconnect the connectors and reinstall the components that were removed.
