    Caution: This vehicle is equipped with a Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) System. Failure to follow the correct procedure could cause the following conditions:

       • Air bag deployment
       • Personal injury
       • Unnecessary SIR system repairs
    In order to avoid the above conditions, observe the following guidelines:
       • Refer to SIR Component Views in order to determine if you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring.
       • If you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring, disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System.

  1. Disable the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil. Refer to Disabling the SIR System in SIR.
  2. Remove the steering wheel from the column. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement .
  3. Remove the steering column from the vehicle. Refer to Steering Column Replacement .
  4. Inspect the steering column for accident damage. Refer to Steering Column Accident Damage Inspection - Off Vehicle .
  5. Important: When removing the upper and lower trim cover, you do not have to remove the wire harness straps for the turn signal and multifunction switch assembly procedure.

  6. Remove the upper and lower trim cover. Refer to Steering Column Trim Covers - Disassemble - Off Vehicle .
  7. Disconnect the 3 connectors from the turn signal and multifunction switch assembly (3).
  8. Remove the 2 pan head tapping screws (1) and (2) from the turn signal and multifunction switch assembly (3).
  9. Remove the turn signal and multifunction switch assembly (3) from the steering column.
