For 1990-2009 cars only
- Disable the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil. Refer to Disabling the SIR System in SIR.
- Remove the steering wheel from the column. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement .
- Remove the steering column from the vehicle. Refer to Steering Column Replacement .
- Inspect the steering column for accident damage. Refer to Steering Column Accident Damage Inspection - Off Vehicle .
- Remove the steering column lock cylinder set. Refer to Ignition Lock Cylinder Replacement - On Vehicle .
- Remove the upper and lower trim cover. Refer to Steering Column Trim Covers - Disassemble - Off Vehicle .
- Disconnect the coded key controller connector.
- Slide the coded key controller (2) from the lock module assembly (1).
- Disconnect the green connector from the bottom of the ignition and key alarm switch assembly.
- Remove the lead inside the clip on the side of the ignition and key alarm switch assembly.
- Remove the key alarm connector (1) from the lock module assembly (4).
- Remove the 2 tapping screws (3) from the ignition and key alarm switch assembly (2).
Caution: This vehicle is equipped with a Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) System. Failure to follow the correct procedure could cause the following conditions:
• Air bag deployment • Personal injury
In order to avoid the above conditions, observe the following guidelines:
• Unnecessary SIR system repairs • Refer to SIR Component Views in order to determine if you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring. • If you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring, disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System.
