Caution: This vehicle is equipped with a Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) System. Failure to follow the correct procedure could cause the following conditions:
• | Unnecessary SIR system repairs |
In order to avoid the above conditions, observe the following guidelines:
• | Refer to SIR Component Views in order to determine if you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring. |
• | If you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring, disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System. |
- Disable the inflatable
restraint steering wheel module coil. Refer to
Disabling the SIR System
in SIR.
- Remove the steering wheel from the column. Refer to
Steering Wheel Replacement
.
- Remove the steering column from the vehicle. Refer to
Steering Column Replacement
.
- Inspect the steering column for accident damage. Refer to
Steering Column Accident Damage Inspection - Off Vehicle
.
- Remove the shift lever. Refer to
Shift Lever - Disassemble - Off Vehicle
.
- Remove the automatic transmission shift lock control only. Refer
to
Automatic Transmission Shift Lock Control Disassemble - Off Vehicle
.
- The lock cylinder should be in the OFF or LOCK position.
- Insert a small screwdriver into the slot on the lock module assembly
and push against the locking tab to remove the park lock cable assembly (1).
- Remove the 3 flat
head 6 lobed socket tap screws from the linear shift assembly.
- Remove the linear shift assembly from the steering column.
