Caution: This vehicle is equipped with a Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) System. Failure to follow the correct procedure could cause the following conditions:
• | Unnecessary SIR system repairs |
In order to avoid the above conditions, observe the following guidelines:
• | Refer to SIR Component Views in order to determine if you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring. |
• | If you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring, disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System. |
- Disable the inflatable
restraint steering wheel module coil. Refer to
Disabling the SIR System
in SIR.
- Remove the steering wheel from the column. Refer to
Steering Wheel Replacement
.
- Remove the steering column from the vehicle. Refer to
Steering Column Replacement
.
- Inspect the steering column for accident damage. Refer to
Steering Column Accident Damage Inspection - Off Vehicle
.
- If necessary, remove the upper and lower trim cover. Refer to
Steering Column Trim Covers - Disassemble - Off Vehicle
.
- Disconnect the automatic transmission shift lock control connector.
Notice: Do not use excessive force when removing the automatic transmission
shift lock control from the steering column. Using excessive force may cause
damage to the automatic transmission shift lock control and/or the steering
column.
- Use a screwdriver to gently
pry the automatic transmission shift lock control from the steering column
support assembly and the linear shift assembly.
- Remove the automatic transmission shift lock control from the
steering column.
