Caution: This vehicle is equipped with a Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) System. Failure to follow the correct procedure could cause the following conditions:
• | Unnecessary SIR system repairs |
In order to avoid the above conditions, observe the following guidelines:
• | Refer to SIR Component Views in order to determine if you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring. |
• | If you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring, disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System. |
- Disable the inflatable
restraint steering wheel module coil. Refer to
Disabling the SIR System
in SIR.
Important: Check the main wiring harness assembly for burned 2 amp fuses
before doing this procedure. The inflatable restraint steering wheel module
coil connector connects to the main wiring harness assembly.
- Remove the upper and lower trim cover. Refer to
Steering Column Trim Covers - Disassemble - Off Vehicle
.
- Remove the steering wheel from the column. Refer to
Steering Wheel Replacement
.
- Remove the steering column from the vehicle. Refer to
Steering Column Replacement
.
- Inspect the steering column for accident damage. Refer to
Steering Column Accident Damage Inspection - Off Vehicle
.
- Remove the retaining ring (2) using snap ring pliers.
- Disconnect the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil (1)
connector from the wire harness assembly.
- Slide the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil (1)
off of the steering shaft.
