Test Description

The numbers below refer to the step numbers on the diagnostic table.

  1. Tests the operation of the headlamp washer pump relay and circuits. If the test lamp illuminates for a few seconds the headlamp washer pump is faulty.

  2. Tests the battery positive voltage supply circuit to the headlamp washer pump relay.

  3. Tests the windshield washer pump control circuit from the wiper motor to the headlamp washer pump relay.

  4. Tests the ability of the dash integration module to energize the headlamp washer pump relay.

DEFINITION: The headlamp washers are inoperative, the windshield washers, low washer fluid indicator, and headlamps operate normal.

Did you perform the Wiper/Washer Diagnostic System Check?

  1. Turn the ignition ON.
  2. Turn the headlamps ON.
  3. Press the windshield washer switch.

Do the headlamp washers operate normally?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

  1. Disconnect the headlamp washer pump connector.
  2. Connect a test lamp across the harness connector terminals.
  3. Turn the ignition ON.
  4. Turn the headlamps ON.
  5. Press the windshield washer switch.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 12

  1. Disconnect the headlamp washer pump relay.
  2. Connect a test lamp from the battery positive voltage supply circuit terminal to ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

  1. Connect a test lamp from the windshield washer pump control circuit terminal in the headlamp washer pump relay connector to ground.
  2. Turn the ignition ON.
  3. Press the windshield washer switch.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

  1. Connect a test lamp from battery positive voltage to the headlamp washer pump relay control circuit terminal.
  2. Turn the ignition ON.
  3. Turn the headlamp switch ON.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Test the headlamp washer pump control circuit for an open or short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the headlamp washer pump ground circuit for an open or high resistance. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Repair the open or short to ground in the headlamp washer pump relay battery positive voltage supply circuit. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Repair the windshield washer pump control circuit for an open or high resistance. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the headlamp washer pump relay control circuit for an open or high resistance. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the headlamp washer pump. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.
