Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the front suspension crossmember. Refer to Front Suspension Crossmember Replacement .
  2. Drain the engine oil.
  3. Remove the engine oil filter and allow to drain.
  4. Remove the automatic transmission fluid cooler lines.

  5. Object Number: 927846  Size: SH
  6. Disconnect the engine oil level sensor electrical connector .
  7. Remove the oil level sensor. Refer to Engine Oil Level Sensor and/or Switch Replacement .

  8. Object Number: 928632  Size: SH
  9. Remove the oil pan bolts.
  10. Remove the oil pan.

  11. Object Number: 1040538  Size: SH
  12. Clean and inspect the oil pan. Refer to Oil Pan Cleaning and Inspection .

Installation Procedure

Note: All gasket surfaces should be free of oil or other foreign material during assembly.

The alignment of the structural oil pan is critical. The rear bolt hole locations of the oil pan provide mounting points for the flywheel housing cover. To ensure the rigidity of the powertrain it is important that the rear of the block and the rear of the oil pan are flush or even. The rear of the oil pan must NEVER protrude beyond the engine block .

  1. Install a new oil pan gasket on the oil manifold plate.

  2. Object Number: 928632  Size: SH
  3. Position the oil pan to the crankcase.
  4. The oil pan must be held flush to 0.50 mm (0.020 in) forward of the rear face of the engine block.
  5. Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

  6. Install the oil pan retaining bolts.
  7. • First Pass: Tighten the oil pan bolts to 15 N·m (11 lb ft) .
    • Final Pass: Tighten the oil pan bolts to 25 N·m (18 lb ft) .
  8. Install the oil drain plug and tighten to 25 N·m (18 lb ft) .
  9. Caution: Refer to Component Fastener Tightening Caution in the Preface section.

  10. Install the engine oil level sensor into the oil pan and tighten to 20 N·m (15 lb ft) .
  11. Connect the electrical connector to the engine oil level sensor.

  12. Object Number: 651883  Size: SH
  13. Install the automatic transmission fluid cooler lines.
  14. Install a NEW engine oil filter and tighten to 30 N·m (22 lb ft) .
  15. Install the front suspension crossmember to the vehicle. Refer to Front Suspension Crossmember Replacement .
  16. Fill the crankcase with the proper quantity and grade of engine oil. Refer to Approximate Fluid Capacities and Fluid and Lubricant Recommendations .
  17. Check the transmission fluid level. Refer to Transmission Fluid Check .
  18. Run the engine and check for leaks.
