Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 220109  Size: MH
  1. Disconnect the battery negative cable from the battery. Refer to Battery Replacement in Engine Electrical.
  2. Drain the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling in Engine Cooling.
  3. Remove the left or right wheel house panel from the vehicle. Refer to Wheelhouse Panel Replacement in Body Front End.
  4. Remove the air intake duct from the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Intake System Replacement in Engine Controls-6.0L, 7.0L.
  5. Remove the air cleaner assembly from the throttle body. Refer to Air Cleaner and Extension Replacement in Engine Controls-6.0L, 7.0L.
  6. Remove the valve rocker arm cover. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm Cover Replacement .
  7. Remove the upper radiator hose from the radiator and the thermostat housing.
  8. Remove the by pass hose from the intake manifold and the thermostat housing.
  9. Remove the air compressor for the air brakes from the engine block (if equipped, leftr side only). Refer to Air Compressor Replacement in Air Brakes.
  10. Remove the air conditioning compressor and secure to the side.
  11. Remove the governor control module from the intake manifold. Refer to Engine Speed Governor Module Replacement in Engine Controls-6.0L, 7.0L.
  12. Disconnect the coolant temperature sensor wire.
  13. Remove the EGR valve from the intake manifold. Refer to Exhaust Gas Recirculation Valve Replacement in Engine Controls--6.0L, 7.0L.
  14. Remove the throttle body from the intake manifold. Refer to Throttle Body Injection (TBI) Unit Replacement in Engine Controls-6.0L, 7.0L.
  15. Remove the MAP sensor from the intake manifold. Refer to Distributor Replacement in Engine Controls-6.0L, 7.0L.
  16. Remove the distributor from the intake manifold. Refer to Distributor Replacement in Engine Electrical.
  17. Remove the ignition coil from the intake manifold. Refer to Ignition Coil and Ignition Coil Module Replacement in Engine Electrical.
  18. Remove the thermostat housing from the intake manifold.
  19. Remove the intake manifold bolts (2) from the intake manifold.
  20. Remove the intake manifold (1) from engine block.
  21. Remove the intake gasket (3) and end seals.
  22. Clean excessive carbon deposits from the exhaust and the EGR passages in the cylinder heads.
  23. Clean excessive scale and deposits from the coolant passages in the cylinder heads.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 220109  Size: MH
  1. Install the intake gasket (3) to the cylinder head.
  2. Install the seals to the engine block.
  3. Install the intake manifold (1) to the engine.

  4. Object Number: 217140  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the intake manifold bolts in the cylinder head.
  6. Tighten

    1. Tighten the bolts and studs in sequence to 34 N·m (23 lb ft).
    2. Tighten the bolts and studs in sequence to 40 N·m (30 lb ft).
  7. Install the by pass hose from the thermostat housing the intake manifold.
  8. Install the thermostat housing to the intake manifold.
  9. Connect the electrical connect to the coolant temperature sensor.
  10. Install the distributor in the intake manifold. Refer to Distributor Replacement in Engine Electrical.
  11. Install the ignition coil on the intake manifold. Refer to Ignition Coil and Ignition Coil Module Replacement in Engine Electrical.
  12. Install the throttle body on the intake manifold. Refer to Throttle Body Injection (TBI) Unit Replacement in Engine Controls-6.0L, 7.0L.
  13. Install the valve rocker arm cover on the cylinder heads. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm Cover Replacement .
  14. Install the EGR valve on the intake manifold. Refer to Exhaust Gas Recirculation Valve Replacement in Engine Controls-6.0L, 7.0L.
  15. Install the governor control module from the intake manifold. Refer to Engine Speed Governor Module Replacement in Engine Controls-6.0L, 7.0L.
  16. Install the MAP sensor on the intake manifold. Refer to Manifold Absolute Pressure Sensor Replacement in Engine Controls-6.0L, 7.0L.
  17. Install the upper radiator hose to the thermostat housing.
  18. Install the air compressor for the air brakes to the engine block (if equipped, left side only). Refer to Air Compressor Replacement in Air Brakes.
  19. Install the air conditioning compressor, if removed.
  20. Install the air cleaner assembly with the air intake duct. Refer to Air Cleaner and Extension Replacement in Engine Controls-6.0L, 7.0L.
  21. Install the air intake duct to the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Intake System Replacement in Engine Controls-6.0L, 7.0L.
  22. Connect the battery negative cable to the battery. Refer to Battery Replacement in Engine Electrical.
  23. Install the left or right wheel house panel in the vehicle. Refer to Wheelhouse Panel Replacement in Body Front End.
  24. Refill the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling in Engine Cooling.
