Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the transmission from the vehicle. Refer to Transmission Removal .

  2. Object Number: 12109  Size: SH
  3. Remove the following parts:
  4. 2.1. The retainer bolts
    2.2. The retainer assembly
    2.3. The gasket

    Object Number: 12111  Size: SH
  5. Separate the retainer flange from the bearing retainer tube.
  6. Remove the O-ring from the flange.

  7. Object Number: 31955  Size: SH
  8. Remove the main drive gear bearing seal from the retainer tube.
  9. Clean the following parts:
  10. • The front case and the bearing retainer tube flange sealing surfaces
    • The retainer tube seal surfaces

Installation Procedure

Tools Required

J 38126 Seal Installer

Important: If the main drive gear bearing retainer tube must be replaced, perform the main drive gear end play measuring procedure. The proper main drive gear end play must be maintained. Refer to Main Drive Gear Bearing Retainer and Gasket .


    Object Number: 12112  Size: SH
  1. Install the bearing seal into the retainer tube. Use J 38126 .

  2. Object Number: 12111  Size: SH
  3. Assemble the following parts:
  4. 2.1. A new O-ring seal onto the flange
    2.2. The tube into the flange

    Object Number: 12109  Size: SH
  5. Install the following parts:
  6. 3.1. The gasket
    3.2. The retainer assembly
    3.3. The retainer bolts

    Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 21 N·m (15 lb ft).

  7. Install the transmission. Refer to Transmission Installation .
