Check the pressure plate or the flywheel for burned or smeared resin.

Is there burned or smeared resin on the pressure plate or the flywheel?

If the burns or smears are superficial, clean or sand off the excess resin. If the pressure plate or flywheel assembly is burned or has heat checked parts, then replace the pressure plate or the flywheel assembly. Refer to Clutch Pressure and Driven Plate Replacement or refer to Engine Flywheel Replacement in engine mechanical

Check for a warped pressure plate or flywheel assembly.

Is the pressure plate or flywheel assembly warped?

Replace the pressure plate or the flywheel assembly. Ensure that runout does not exceed the amount given in the value column. Refer to Clutch Pressure and Driven Plate Replacement or refer to Engine Flywheel Replacement in engine mechanical

1.25 mm (0.05 in)

Check for oil on the clutch disc assembly facing or a burned or glazed facing.

Is there oil on the clutch disc assembly facing or a burned or glazed facing?

  1. Install a new clutch disc. Refer to Clutch Pressure and Driven Plate Replacement .
  2. Correct the leak at the source. Refer to Oil Leak Diagnosis in Engine Mechanical.

Check for worn splines on the transmission main drive gear or on the disc hub.

Are there worn splines on the transmission main drive gear or on the disc hub?

Important: The main drive gear must be replaced via the ZF6-speed manual transmission exchange program.

Replace the transmission main drive gear or disc.

Does the clutch still grab?

Is the release bearing binding on the retaining tube on the transmission main drive gear?
