The bearing preload spring is missing/broken.

1. Inspect the bearing preload spring.
2. Replace as needed.

The centering spring in spheres is damaged or missing.

1. Inspect the centering spring in centering spheres.
2. Replace as needed.

Refer to Lower Steering Shaft, Lower Bearing, Column Jacket - Off Vehicle .

Excessive clearance between holes in support or housing and pivot pin diameters.

1. Clean components affected.
2. Inspect components affected.
3. Replace components affected.

Refer to Steering Column Replacement .

The support screws are loose.

Torque the support screws to proper specifications.

Refer to Lower Steering Shaft, Lower Bearing, Column Jacket - Off Vehicle .

The upper bearing inner race seat is missing.

Install seat.

Refer to Steering Column Tilt Head - Off Vehicle .

The upper bearing is not seated in housing.

1. Inspect the upper bearing.
2. Use the correct special tool to seat the bearing in housing.
