Removal Procedure

  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling in SIR.
  2. Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4. Remove the console. Refer to Console Replacement .
  5. Remove the I/P accessory trim plate. Refer to Instrument Panel Accessory Trim Plate Replacement .
  6. Remove the driver knee bolster trim panel. Refer to Driver Knee Bolster Panel Replacement .
  7. Remove the ignition switch housing bracket and reposition the ignition switch. Refer to Ignition Switch Housing Bracket Replacement .
  8. Release the ignition switch and hazard warning switch wiring harness retainers from the driver knee bolster bracket.
  9. Important: The following step must be performed to assure proper trim fit during installation.

  10. Mark the location of the driver knee bolster bracket. Refer to Instrument Panel Disassembly Precautions .

  12. Remove the retaining screws from the driver knee bolster bracket.
  13. Remove the driver knee bolster bracket.

  14. Object Number: 65118  Size: SH
  15. Remove the left lower closeout panel. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Left Side .
  16. Tilt the steering wheel to the lowest position.
  17. Remove the upper and lower nuts retaining the steering column to the steering column bracket. Carefully rest the steering column on the I/P lower support beam. Refer to Steering Column Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column.
  18. Remove the left windshield side garnish molding. Refer to Windshield Side Garnish Molding Replacement in Interior Trim.
  19. Remove the I/P upper trim pad. Refer to Instrument Panel Upper Trim Pad Replacement .
  20. Remove the outlet duct from the left side window defogger.
  21. Remove the instrument panel cluster. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement .
  22. Disconnect the Bose® module electrical/audio connector, if equipped.

    Important: The Bose® module is only held in place by retaining bolts. Support the module upon removal.

  24. If the vehicle is equipped with a Bose® player, remove the bolts mounting the Bose® module to the steering column bracket
  25. Remove the Bose® module.
  26. Important: The following step must be performed to assure proper trim fit during installation.

  27. Mark the location of the driver knee bolster outer bracket. Refer to Instrument Panel Disassembly Precautions .

  29. Remove the retaining screws from the driver knee bolster outer bracket.
  30. Remove the outer bracket.

  32. Remove the accelerator pedal assembly with the accelerator pedal position sensor. Refer to Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor Replacement in Engine Controls - 5.7L.
  33. Disconnect the brake master cylinder push rod from the brake pedal.
  34. Remove the brake booster mounting nuts.

  36. Remove the mounting bolts from the cruise control release switch bracket.
  37. Reposition the cruise control release switch and the bracket.

  39. Disconnect the master cylinder push rod from the clutch pedal.

  40. Object Number: 71482  Size: SH
  41. Remove the nuts which secure the clutch pedal bracket to the steering column bracket.
  42. Remove the pedal bracket stud plate.

  43. Object Number: 95665  Size: SH

    Important: The following step assures proper trim fit during installation.

  44. Mark the location of the steering column bracket. Refer to Instrument Panel Disassembly Precautions .
  45. Remove the bolts which secure the steering column bracket to the I/P lower support beam.

  47. Remove the bolts which secure the steering column bracket to the I/P upper support beam.
  48. Remove the steering column bracket.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 95663  Size: SH
  1. Install the steering column bracket into position as marked prior to removal.
  2. Install the bolts which secure the steering column bracket to the I/P upper support beam. Do NOT tighten the bolts.

  3. Object Number: 95665  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Install the bolts which secure the steering column bracket to the I/P lower support beam.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten all of the bolts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  6. Install the clutch pedal bracket stud plate.
  7. Install the nuts to the clutch pedal bracket stud plate.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the nuts to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).

  9. Connect the master cylinder push rod to the clutch pedal.

  10. Object Number: 71494  Size: SH
  11. Position the cruise control release switch and bracket to the steering column bracket.
  12. Install the bracket bolts to the cruise control release switch.
  13. Tighten
    Tighten the bracket bolts to 12 N·m (106 lb in).


    Object Number: 174198  Size: SH
  14. Install the brake booster nuts.
  15. Tighten
    Tighten the nuts to 29 N·m (21 lb ft).

  16. Connect the master cylinder push rod to the brake pedal.
  17. Install the accelerator pedal assembly with accelerator pedal position sensor. Refer to Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor Replacement in Engine Controls - 5.7L .

  18. Object Number: 95667  Size: SH
  19. Install the driver knee bolster outer bracket into position as marked prior to removal.
  20. Install the retaining screws to the driver knee bolster outer bracket .
  21. Tighten
    Tighten the retaining screws to 1.9 N·m (17 lb in).


    Object Number: 65115  Size: SH
  22. If the vehicle is equipped with a Bose® module, position the Bose® module to the steering column bracket.
  23. Install the Bose® module retaining bolts.
  24. Tighten
    Tighten the retaining bolts to 2.5 N·m (22 lb in).

  25. Connect the Bose® module electrical/audio connector.
  26. Install the instrument panel cluster. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement .
  27. Install the outlet duct to the left side window defogger.
  28. Install the I/P upper trim pad. Refer to Instrument Panel Upper Trim Pad Replacement .
  29. Install the left windshield side garnish molding. Refer to Windshield Side Garnish Molding Replacement in Interior Trim.
  30. Install the steering column to the steering column bracket. Refer to Steering Column Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column.
  31. Install the left lower closeout panel. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Left Side .

  32. Object Number: 95668  Size: SH
  33. Install the driver knee bolster bracket into position as marked prior to removal.
  34. Install the screws which retain the driver knee bolster bracket to the steering column bracket.
  35. Tighten
    Tighten the screws to 1.9 N·m (17 lb in).

  36. Secure the wiring harness retainers on the ignition switch and hazard warning switch to the driver knee bolster bracket.
  37. Install the ignition switch housing bracket. Refer to Ignition Switch Housing Bracket Replacement .
  38. Install the driver knee bolster trim panel. Refer to Driver Knee Bolster Panel Replacement .
  39. Install the I/P accessory trim plate. Refer to Instrument Panel Accessory Trim Plate Replacement .
  40. Install the console. Refer to Console Replacement .
  41. Connect the negative battery cable and install the cable bolt.
  42. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).

  43. Program the transmitters. Refer to Transmitter Synchronization and Transmitter Programming in Keyless Entry.
  44. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling in SIR.
