DTC Descriptor
DTC B0005 08: In Park Switch/Signal Circuit
Circuit/System Description
The steering column lock control module (SCLCM) receives a discrete input from the reverse switch (MM6/MZ6) or the automatic transmission shift lever (MYC) and a serial data input from the body control module (BCM). When the
shift lever is in the reverse (MM6/MZ6) or park (MYC) position, the reverse switch or the switch internal to the automatic transmission shift lever closes sending a high input to the SCLCM. The SCLCM compares the serial data input to the discrete
input. If the SCLCM receives a column lock enable command from the BCM and the transmission shift select switch (park) signal (MYC) backup lamp switch signal (MM6/MZ6) circuit is low, DTC B0005 will set.
Conditions for Running the DTC
• | DTCs B1327 or B1328 are not set as current. |
• | The condition must be present for 300 ms. |
• | The condition must be present for 5 consecutive ignition cycles. |
Conditions for Setting the DTC
• | DTC B0005 will set when the SCLCM receives a column lock enable command from the BCM and the transmission shift select switch (park) signal (MYC) backup lamp switch signal (MM6/MZ6) circuit is low. |
• | There is a short to ground or an open in the transmission shift select switch (park) signal (MYC) backup lamp switch signal (MM6/MZ6) circuit. |
Actions Taken When DTC Sets
• | DTC B0005 is stored in the SCLCM memory. |
• | The SCLCM will command the driver information center (DIC) to display the Service Column Lock Now message. |
Conditions for Clearing the DTC
• | The SCLCM no longer detects a malfunction in the transmission shift select switch (park) signal (MYC) backup lamp switch signal (MM6/MZ6) circuit. |
• | A history DTC will clear after 50 consecutive ignition cycles if the condition for the malfunction is no longer present. |

Circuit/System Verification
- Ignition ON, observe the scan tool Reverse Gear (Manual) or Park Switch (Auto) in Keyless/Remote Start Data while moving the manual or automatic transmission shift lever. The reading should change between Active and Inactive.
- Ignition ON, observe the scan tool Park Switch in Steering Column Lock Module Data Display while moving the manual or automatic transmission shift lever. The reading should change between On and Off.
Circuit/System Testing
- Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the reverse switch (MM6/MZ6) or the automatic transmission shift lever (MYC).
- Ignition ON, verify that a test lamp illuminates between the park/reverse switch supply voltage circuit 2 (MM6/MZ6) or 1 (MYC) and ground.
⇒ | If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the park/reverse switch supply voltage circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal and the BTSI SOL/STR WHL LCK Park/Reverse Switch Supply Voltage circuit fuse is
open, test the signal circuit 1 (MM6/MZ6) or 6 (MYC) for a short to ground. |
- Verify the scan tool Park Switch is Off.
⇒ | If not the specified value, test the signal circuit 1 (MM6/MZ6) or 6 (MYC) for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, replace the SCLCM. |
- Install a 3A fused jumper wire between the signal circuit terminal 1 (MM6/MZ6) or 6 (MYC) and the park/reverse switch supply voltage circuit 2 (MM6/MZ6) or 1 (MYC). Verify the scan tool Park Switch is On.
⇒ | If not the specified value, test the signal circuit for an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the SCLCM. |
- If all circuits test normal, test or replace the automatic transmission shift lever assembly.
Component Testing
- Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the automatic transmission shift lever.
- Test for infinite resistance between the signal 1 (MM6/MZ6) or 6 (MYC) and the park/reverse switch supply voltage 2 (MM6/MZ6) or 1 (MYC) with the switch in the open position.
⇒ | If not the specified value, replace the automatic transmission shift lever. |
- Test for less than 1 ohm of resistance between the signal 1 (MM6/MZ6) or 6 (MYC) and the park/reverse switch supply voltage 2 (MM6/MZ6) or 1 (MYC) with the switch in the closed position.
⇒ | If greater than the specified range, replace the automatic transmission shift lever. |
