Circuit/System Description

The power door locks use a actuator that is contained in each door lock assembly. The door locks are activated by the actuator on the inside door handle or by the lock cylinder on the driver door only. When the driver door is locked or unlocked by the actuator or lock cylinder, all doors are locked or unlocked accordingly. The driver door lock actuator assembly controls the passenger door lock actuators through 2 bi-directional control circuits.

Circuit/System Verification

Command the doors to LOCK and UNLOCK using the driver door lock switch, all doors should LOCK and UNLOCK.

If the driver door and the passenger doors do not LOCK or UNLOCK, refer to Door Lock Switch Malfunction.
If one or more of the passenger doors do not LOCK or UNLOCK refer to Door Lock Actuator Malfunction.
If the driver door only does not LOCK or UNLOCK, replace the driver door lock actuator.

Circuit/System Testing

Door Lock Switch Malfunction

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the driver door lock switch.
  2. Test for less than 10 ohms between the ground circuit terminal and ground.
  3. If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.
  4. Ignition ON, verify that a test lamp illuminates between the B+ circuit terminal and ground.
  5. If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the B+ circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance.
  6. If all circuits test normal, replace the driver door lock actuator.

Door Lock Actuator Malfunction

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the appropriate door lock actuator.
  2. Connect a test lamp between the actuator control circuit terminals.
  3. Ignition ON, command the door lock actuator to LOCK and UNLOCK by using the driver door lock switch. The test lamp should briefly illuminate when commanding the LOCK and UNLOCK states.
  4. If the test lamp does not illuminate during either of the commands, test either control circuit for a short to voltage, short to ground, or an open/high resistance. If the circuits test normal, replace the driver door lock switch.
  5. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the door lock actuator.

Repair Instructions

Perform the Diagnostic Repair Verification after completing the diagnostic procedure.
