J 8614-01 Flange and Pulley Holding Tool

Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the cooling fan drive belt. Refer to Fan Belt Replacement .
  2. Remove the accessory drive belt. Refer to Generator and Air Conditioning Compressor and Power Steering Pump Belt Replacement .
  3. Remove the cooling fan. Refer to Fan Replacement in Engine Cooling.
  4. Remove the radiator. Refer to Radiator Replacement in Engine Cooling.

  5. Object Number: 464729  Size: SH

    Important: Do not damage the A/C condenser, if equipped, during crankshaft pulley service.

  6. Remove the crankshaft pulley retaining bolt using the J 8614-01 to prevent crankshaft rotation when loosening the bolt.

  8. The crankshaft may also be held by locking the flywheel through the access hole (1).

  9. Object Number: 464734  Size: SH
  10. Remove the crankshaft pulley.

Installation Procedure

  1. Lubricate the front seal and the sealing surface of the crankshaft pulley with Chassis Grease GM P/N 1051344 (Canadian P/N 993037) or equivalent.

  2. Object Number: 464734  Size: SH
  3. Install the crankshaft pulley onto the crankshaft indexing the keyway.

  4. Object Number: 464729  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the crankshaft pulley retaining bolt using the J 8614-01 to prevent crankshaft rotation when tightening the bolt.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 150 N·m (109 lb ft).

  7. Install the radiator. Refer to Radiator Replacement in Engine Cooling.
  8. Install the accessory drive belt. Refer to Generator and Air Conditioning Compressor and Power Steering Pump Belt Replacement .
  9. Install the cooling fan drive belt. Refer to Fan Belt Replacement .
  10. Install the cooling fan. Refer to Fan Replacement in Engine Cooling.
