Cylinder Head Replacement Right

1. Disconnect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Cable Replacement .
2. Drain the engine coolant. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .
3. Remove the engine cooling fan assembly. Refer to Fan Clutch Replacement .
4. Remove the generator mounting bracket. Refer to Accessory Mounting Brackets Replacement .
5. Remove the generator mounting bracket stud from the cylinder head.
6. Remove the lower intake manifold. Refer to Intake Manifold Replacement .
7. Remove the exhaust manifold. Refer to Exhaust Manifold Replacement .



8. Remove the spark plug wire harness and spark plug wire support.
9. Remove the valve pushrods. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm and Push Rod Replacement .



10. Remove and discard the cylinder head bolts.
11. Remove the cylinder head.



12. Remove the cylinder head gasket and discard.
13. Clean the engine block and the cylinder head sealing surfaces.

Notice: Clean all dirt, debris, and coolant from the engine block cylinder head bolt holes. Failure to remove all foreign material may result in damaged threads, improperly tightened fasteners or damage to components.

14. Clean the engine block bolt holes.
15. For further service to the cylinder head refer to the following:

•	Cylinder Head Disassemble

•	Cylinder Head Cleaning and Inspection

•	Valve Guide Reaming, and Valve and Seat Grinding

•	Cylinder Head Assemble

1. Install the cylinder head gasket and the cylinder head. Refer to Cylinder Head Installation .
2. Install the valve pushrods. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm and Push Rod Replacement .
3. Install the lower intake manifold. Refer to Intake Manifold Replacement .

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.




4. Install the spark plug wire harness and the spark plug wire support.

Tighten
Tighten the support bolts to 12 N·m  (106 lb in).

5. Install the exhaust manifold. Refer to Exhaust Manifold Replacement .



6. Install the stud for the generator mounting bracket.

Tighten
Tighten the generator mounting bracket stud to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).

7. Install the generator mounting bracket. Refer to Accessory Mounting Brackets Replacement .
8. Install the engine cooling fan assembly. Refer to Fan Clutch Replacement .
9. Fill the engine coolant system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .
10. Connect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Cable Replacement .

Cylinder Head Replacement Left

1. Disconnect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Cable Replacement .
2. Drain the engine coolant. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .
3. Remove the engine cooling fan assembly. Refer to Fan Clutch Replacement .
4. Remove the power steering pump mounting bracket. Refer to Accessory Mounting Brackets Replacement .
5. Remove the power steering pump mounting bracket stud from the cylinder head.
6. Remove the lower intake manifold. Refer to Intake Manifold Replacement .
7. Remove the exhaust manifold. Refer to Exhaust Manifold Replacement .



8. Remove the spark plug wire harness and the spark plug wire support.
9. Remove the valve pushrods. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm and Push Rod Replacement .



10. Remove the ground strap and ground wire bolt from the rear of the cylinder head.



11. Remove and discard the cylinder head bolts.
12. Remove the cylinder head.



13. Remove and discard the cylinder head gasket.
14. Clean the engine block and the cylinder head sealing surfaces.

Notice: Clean all dirt, debris, and coolant from the engine block cylinder head bolt holes. Failure to remove all foreign material may result in damaged threads, improperly tightened fasteners or damage to components.

15. Clean the engine block bolt holes.
16. For further service to the cylinder head refer to the following:

•	Cylinder Head Disassemble

•	Cylinder Head Cleaning and Inspection

•	Valve Guide Reaming, and Valve and Seat Grinding

•	Cylinder Head Assemble

1. Install the cylinder head. Refer to Cylinder Head Installation .

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.




2. Install the ground strap and the ground wire bolt.

Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 16 N·m (12 lb ft).

3. Install the valve pushrods. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm and Push Rod Replacement .
4. Install the lower intake manifold. Refer to Intake Manifold Replacement .
5. Install the exhaust manifold. Refer to Exhaust Manifold Replacement .



6. Install the spark plug wire harness and spark plug wire support.

Tighten
Tighten the support bolts to 12 N·m (106 lb in).




7. Install the stud for the power steering pump mounting bracket to the cylinder head.

Tighten
Tighten the power steering pump mounting bracket stud to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).

8. Install the power steering pump mounting bracket. Refer to Accessory Mounting Brackets Replacement .
9. Install the engine cooling fan assembly. Refer to Fan Clutch Replacement .
10. Fill the engine coolant system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .
11. Connect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Cable Replacement .
