Speakers Inoperative - One or More w/o Y91

Schematic Reference: Radio/Audio System Schematics

Preliminary Information

Always perform the Entertainment System Diagnostic System Check before proceeding with these diagnostic procedures. Refer to Diagnostic System Check - Entertainment System .

Important: The following information lists the most probable cause of the concern to the least probable cause. If the list leads to the replacement of a component, always inspect for a poor connection before proceeding with replacement. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections , and to Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

One Speaker Inoperative

  1. Speaker output open. Test the appropriate speaker output circuits for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing , and to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
  2. Audio output from the radio is not evident. Test for any AC voltage between the appropriate speaker output circuits at the speaker harness connector, disconnected with the radio volume adjusted to an audible level. If AC voltage is present, replace the speaker. Refer to Speaker Replacement Reference . If AC voltage is not present, replace the radio. Refer to Radio Replacement .

All Speakers Inoperative

  1. Speaker output shorted -- Test all speaker outputs for a short. Refer to Circuit Testing , and to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
  2. Faulty radio -- Replace the radio. Refer to Radio Replacement .

Speakers Inoperative - One or More w/Y91

One Speaker Inoperative

  1. Speaker output circuit from amplifier open or shorted. Test the appropriate speaker output circuits for an open or short. Refer to Circuit Testing , and to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
  2. Low level audio circuit of the radio is open. Test the appropriate low level audio circuit of the radio for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing , and to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
  3. Low level audio output from the radio is not evident. Test for any AC voltage between the appropriate low Level Audio Signal circuits at the amplifier harness connector, disconnected with the radio volume adjusted to an audible level. If AC voltage is not present, replace the radio. Refer to Radio Replacement .
  4. Audio output from the amplifier is not evident. Test for any AC voltage between the appropriate speaker output circuits at the speaker harness connector, disconnected with the radio volume adjusted to an audible level. If AC voltage is present, replace the speaker. Refer to Speaker Replacement Reference . If AC voltage is not present, replace the amplifier. Refer to Amplifier Replacement - Rear Quarter .

Rear Speakers Inoperative

  1. Video displays are not stowed in the upright position. Stow the video displays in the full upright position.
  2. Faulty RSAT module - Replace the module. Refer to Audio/Video Interface Module Replacement .

Audio Right or Left Amplifier Channel Malfunction

  1. Low level audio circuit from the radio is open or shorted. Test the appropriate low level audio circuits of the radio for an open or short. Refer to Circuit Testing , and to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
  2. Low level audio output from the radio is not evident. Test for any AC voltage between the appropriate low Level Audio Signal circuits at the amplifier harness connector, disconnected with the radio volume adjusted to an audible level. If AC voltage is not present, replace the radio. Refer to Radio Replacement .
  3. Low level audio circuit from the RSAT module leading to both Bose 2000 amplifiers is open or shorted. Test the appropriate low level audio circuits of the RSAT for an open or short. Refer to Circuit Testing , and to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
  4. Audio output from the amplifier is not evident. Test for any AC voltage between the appropriate speaker output circuits at the speaker harness connector, disconnected with the radio volume adjusted to an audible level. If AC voltage is present, replace the speaker. Refer to Speaker Replacement Reference . If AC voltage is not present, replace the amplifier. Refer to Amplifier Replacement - Rear Quarter .

Front Door Speakers, B-Pillar Speakers and Front Bass Speaker Inoperative

  1. Battery positive voltage circuit of the Bose 2000 amplifier-1 is open. Test battery positive voltage circuit of the Bose 2000 amplifier-1 for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing , and to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
  2. Amplifier supply voltage circuit of the Bose 2000 amplifier-1 is open or shorted. Test the amplifier supply voltage circuit of the Bose 2000 amplifier-1 for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing , and to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
  3. Ground circuit of the Bose 2000 amplifier-1 is open. Test ground circuit of the Bose 2000 amplifier-1 for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing , and to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
  4. Audio output from the Bose 2000 amplifier-1 is not evident. Test for any AC voltage between the appropriate speaker output circuits at the speaker harness connector, disconnected with the radio volume adjusted to an audible level. If AC voltage is present, replace the speaker. Refer to Speaker Replacement Reference . If AC voltage is not present, replace the amplifier. Refer to Amplifier Replacement - Rear Quarter .

Rear Headliner Speakers, Mid Headliner Speakers and Rear Subwoofer Speaker Inoperative

  1. Battery positive voltage circuit of the Bose 2000 amplifier-2 is open. Test battery positive voltage circuit of the Bose 2000 amplifier-2 for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing , and to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
  2. Amplifier supply voltage circuit of the Bose 2000 amplifier-2 is open or shorted. Test the amplifier supply voltage circuit of the Bose 2000 amplifier-2 for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing , and to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
  3. Ground circuit of the Bose 2000 amplifier-2 is open. Test ground circuit of the Bose 2000 amplifier-2 for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing , and to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
  4. Audio output from the Bose 2000 amplifier-2 is not evident. Test for any AC voltage between the appropriate speaker output circuits at the speaker harness connector, disconnected with the radio volume adjusted to an audible level. If AC voltage is present, replace the speaker. Refer to Speaker Replacement Reference . If AC voltage is not present, replace the Bose 2000 amplifier-2. Refer to Amplifier Replacement - Rear Quarter .

Front Bass Speaker and Rear Subwoofer Speaker Inoperative

  1. Low level audio circuit from the Bose amplifier leading to and from the affected sub-amplifier is open or shorted. Test the appropriate low level audio circuits of the Bose amplifier for an open or short. Refer to Circuit Testing , and to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
  2. Ground circuit of the amplifier is open. Test ground circuit of the amplifier for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing , and to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
  3. Audio output from the sub-amplifier is not evident. Test for any AC voltage between the appropriate speaker output circuits at the speaker harness connector, disconnected with the radio volume adjusted to an audible level. If AC voltage is present, replace the speaker. Refer to Speaker Replacement Reference . If AC voltage is not present, replace the sub-amplifier. Refer to Amplifier Replacement - Rear Quarter .

All Speakers Inoperative

  1. Low level audio output of the radio shorted--Test all radio low level audio outputs for a short. Refer to Circuit Testing , and to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
  2. Remote radio control supply voltage circuit is open or shorted--Test the remote radio control supply voltage circuit of the radio for an open or a short. Refer to Circuit Testing , and to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
  3. Rear seat audio enable signal circuit is shorted--Test the rear seat audio enable signal circuit of the radio for a short. Refer to Circuit Testing , and to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
  4. Radio on signal circuit is open or shorted--Test the radio on signal circuit of the radio for an open or a short. Refer to Circuit Testing , and to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
  5. Amplifier control circuit is open or shorted--Test the amplifier control circuit of the switch amplifier power relay for an open or a short. Refer to Circuit Testing , and to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
  6. If the amplifier control circuit test result is acceptable, test the following circuits for an open, and refer to Circuit Testing , and to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems:

    • Accessory voltage circuit of the switch amplifier power relay.
    • Ground circuit of the switch amplifier power relay
    • Amplifier supply voltage circuit of the Bose amplifiers
    • Battery positive voltage circuit of the Bose amplifiers
    • Ground circuit of the Bose amplifiers
    • If the ground circuit test result is acceptable, replace the switch amplifier power relay.
