Schematic Reference: Video System Schematics

DEFINITION: The video cassette player (VCP) does not turn ON when the ignition switch is ON. The front video display does turn ON when the screen is in the down position with the ignition switch ON.

Did you perform a Diagnostic System Check-Entertainment System?

  1. Turn ON the ignition.
  2. Test the operation of the radio and rear seat audio (RSA) control with the rear video system OFF.
  3. Lower the screen of the front video display. The video display backlighting turns ON, without an image, and the status indicator on the video display turns ON red solid, not flashing.
  4. Press the PWR button on the video cassette player (VCP). The red indicator on the VCP PWR button turns ON.

Does the system operate normally?

Test the VCP/DVD power enable signal circuit for the following conditions:

    • An open
    • A short to ground
    • A short to voltage

Refer to Circuit Testing , and to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

  1. Disconnect the video cassette player (VCP) connector C1.
  2. Turn ON the ignition.
  3. Lower the screen of the front video display. The status indicator on the video display turns red solid, not flashing.
  4. Measure the voltage of the VCP/DVD power on signal at the harness side of the VCP connector C1.

Is the voltage within the range shown?

9.5-13.5 V

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector C1 of the video cassette player (VCP). Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections , and to Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector C2 of the audio/video interface module. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections , and to Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector C1 of the front video display. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections , and to Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the video cassette player (VCP). Refer to Video Cassette Player Replacement .
