Power Steering Pump Replacement LG4/LF8 with JE3

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 1765587  Size: SH
  1. Remove the power steering pump pulley gear nut (1), washer (2), and the gear (3) from the pump.

  2. Object Number: 218952  Size: SH

    Important: Always clean the connectors and lubricate the tool end in power steering fluid when inserting the tool end into the coupling.

    Important: Check all power steering system quick connect connections by trying to pull the hose assembly out of the fitting. Use a firm hand tug. Repeat the step if the connector is pulled out of the male fitting. If the problem persists, inspect and replace the hose assembly if the quick connect is damaged.

    Important: 

       • Cap the hoses in order to keep dirt out of the system.
       • Tag the hose locations (1, 2).

  3. Remove the power steering hoses at the pump. Refer to Power Steering Fluid Reservoir Outlet Hose Replacement and Power Brake Booster Inlet Hose Replacement.

  4. Object Number: 798050  Size: SH
  5. Remove the power steering pump bolts and nut.
  6. Remove the power steering pump.
  7. Remove the power steering pump gasket.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 798050  Size: SH
  1. Install the power steering pump gasket.
  2. Install the power steering pump.
  3. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  4. Install the power steering pump bolts and nut.
  5. Tighten

        • Tighten the bolts to 85 N·m (63 lb ft).
        • Tighten the nut to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).
  6. Install the power steering hoses. Refer to Power Steering Fluid Reservoir Outlet Hose Replacement and Power Brake Booster Inlet Hose Replacement.
  7. Note the hose locations.

    Important: The air compressor crankshaft gear nut must reach the listed torque or the gear could come loose.

  8. Position the gear (3), the washer (2), and the nut (1) to the pump.
  9. Tighten
    Tighten the gear nut to 235 N·m (173 lb ft).

  10. Bleed the system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding.

Removal Procedure

    Important: Always clean the connectors and lubricate the tool end in power steering fluid when inserting the tool end into the coupling.

    Important: Test all power steering system quick connect connections by trying to pull the hose assembly out of the fitting. Use a firm hand tug. Repeat the step if the connector is pulled out of the male fitting. If the problem persists, inspect and replace the hose assembly if the quick connect is damaged.

    Important: Mark the hoses for proper installation.

    Cap the hoses to keep dirt out of the power steering system.

  1. Remove the power steering hoses (1, 2) at the pump. Refer to Power Steering Fluid Reservoir Outlet Hose Replacement and Power Brake Booster Inlet Hose Replacement.

  2. Object Number: 798055  Size: SH
  3. Remove the power steering pump bolts.
  4. Remove the power steering pump.
  5. Remove the power steering pump gasket.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 798055  Size: SH
  1. Install the power steering pump gasket.
  2. Install the power steering pump.
  3. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  4. Install the power steering pump bolts.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 85 N·m (63 lb ft).

  6. Install the steering hoses (1, 2). Refer to Power Steering Fluid Reservoir Outlet Hose Replacement and Power Brake Booster Inlet Hose Replacement.
  7. Note the hose locations.

  8. Bleed the system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding.
