Removal Procedure

    Caution: Refer to SIR Caution in the Preface section.

  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling and SIR Disabling and Enabling in SIR.
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
  3. Remove the I/P retainer. Refer to Instrument Panel Retainer Replacement .
  4. Remove the data link connector fasteners.
  5. Remove the passenger inflator module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Instrument Panel Module Replacement in SIR.
  6. Disconnect the ignition switch electrical connectors.
  7. Remove the shift/park lock cable from the ignition switch.

  9. Disconnect the body to I/P electrical connector (1) located at the upper right outside corner of the I/P carrier.

  11. Remove the HVAC aspirator tube (5).
  12. Feed the ignition switch wiring (4) through the I/P carrier.
  13. Feed the shift/park lock cable (3) through the I/P carrier.
  14. Feed the console wiring harness (1) through the I/P carrier.
  15. Release the SIR harness (6) retainer from the I/P carrier.

  17. Remove the I/P carrier fasteners.
  18. Remove the I/P carrier from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

  1. Align the instrument panel (I/P) carrier to the vehicle.
  2. Install the HVAC aspirator tube (5).
  3. Feed the ignition switch wiring (4) through the I/P carrier.
  4. Feed the shift/park lock cable (3) through the I/P carrier.
  5. Feed the console wiring harness (1) through the I/P carrier.
  6. Install the SIR harness (6) retainer to the I/P carrier.

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  8. Install the fasteners (1) from the I/P carrier to the hinge pillar.
  9. Tighten
    Tighten the fasteners to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  10. Install the fasteners from the I/P carrier to the cowl.
  11. Tighten
    Tighten the fasteners to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  12. Install the fasteners (3) from the I/P carrier to the end bracket.
  13. Tighten
    Tighten the fasteners to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  14. Connect the ignition switch electrical connectors .
  15. Install the shift/park lock cable to the ignition switch.
  16. Install the passenger inflator module. Refer to in SIR.
  17. Install the data link connector fasteners.
  18. Tighten
    Tighten the fasteners to 2 N·m (18 lb in).

  19. Install the I/P retainer. Refer to Instrument Panel Retainer Replacement .
  20. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
  21. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling and SIR Disabling and Enabling in SIR.
