Keyless Entry System Inoperative All Functions

Was the BCM diagnostic system check performed?

  1. Remove key from the ignition key lock cylinder.
  2. Close all vehicle doors.
  3. While observing the door locks, press lock then unlock on the driver's door lock switch.
  4. While observing the door locks, press lock then unlock on the passenger door lock switch.

Do all doors lock and unlock when using either door lock switch?

Resynchronize transmitters:

  1. Press and hold for at least seven seconds both the lock and unlock buttons on the keyless entry transmitter; one transmitter at a time. Note: The horns chirp three times at around the 7 second mark.
  2. Make sure key is removed from the ignition key cylinder lock.
  3. Close all vehicle doors.
  4. While observing the door locks, press once the lock button on the keyless entry transmitter.
  5. While observing the rear compartment lid, press once the rear compartment button on the keyless entry transmitter.
  6. While observing the headlamps and listening to the horn, press the alarm button on the keyless entry transmitter.

Does the keyless entry system operate the door locks, rear compartment lid and alarm?

  1. Remove transmitter batteries.
  2. Using a DMM, measure the voltage on each transmitter battery.

Is the voltage measured within the specified range?

3-3.5V

  1. Reprogram all transmitters. Refer to Transmitter Programming for procedure.
  2. Make sure key is removed from the ignition key cylinder lock.
  3. Close all vehicle doors.
  4. While observing the door locks, press once the lock button on the keyless entry transmitters.
  5. While observing the door locks, press twice the unlock button on the keyless entry transmitter.
  6. While observing the rear compartment lid, press once the rear compartment button on the keyless entry transmitter.
  7. While observing the headlamps and listening to the horn, press the alarm button on the keyless entry transmitter.

Does the keyless entry system operate the door locks, rear compartment lid and alarm?

  1. Program a known good transmitter. Refer to Transmitter Programming for procedure.
  2. Make sure key is removed from the ignition key cylinder lock.
  3. Close all vehicle doors.
  4. While observing the door locks, press once the lock button on the keyless entry transmitters.
  5. While observing the door locks, press twice the unlock button on the keyless entry transmitter.
  6. While observing the rear compartment lid, press once the rear compartment button on the keyless entry transmitter.
  7. While observing the headlamps and listening to the horn, press the alarm button on the keyless entry transmitter.

Does the keyless entry system operate the door locks rear compartment lid and alarm?

Check the RADIO-HVAC fuse.

Is the RADIO-HVAC fuse open?

  1. Replace the RADIO-HVAC fuse.
  2. Check the RADIO-HVAC fuse again.

Is the RADIO-HVAC fuse open again?

  1. Disconnect the Remote Control Door Lock Receiver (RCDLR).
  2. Using a test light, connect between the RCDLR harness connector terminals A and C.

Is the test light on?

Using a test light, connect between the RCDLR harness connector terminal C and ground.

Replace the malfunctioning transmitter.

    • Check for poor connector terminal contact at the RCDLR.
    • If connection is OK, then replace the RCDLR. Refer to Receiver Replacement for service procedure.

  1. Turn the ignition switch off.
  2. Reinstall connectors/components removed.
  3. Check for BCM current DTCs. Refer to Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Displaying in Body Control System.

  1. Set the remote unlock verification to mode 4 and the remote lock verification to mode 4. Refer to Remote Activation Verification (RAV) Customization for procedure.
  2. Remove key from the ignition switch.
  3. While observing the headlamps and listening to the horn, press the lock button on the keyless entry transmitter.
  4. While observing the headlamps and listening to the horn, press the unlock button on the keyless entry transmitter.

Upon pressing lock and unlock on the keyless entry transmitter, does the horn sound and the headlamps flash?

  1. Replace the BCM. Refer to Body Control Module Replacement in Body Control System for service procedures.
  2. After BCM replacement, perform the Setup New BCM procedure. Refer to Body Control Module (BCM) Programming/RPO Configuration in Body Control System.

  1. Turn the ignition switch off.
  2. Reinstall connectors/components removed.
  3. Check for BCM current DTCs. Refer to Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Displaying in Body Control System.
