Range Selector Lever Cable Replacement At PNP Switch - 3800 V6 L36

Removal Procedure

Caution: Refer to Automatic Transmission Range Selector Cable Caution in the Preface section.

  1. Remove the throttle body air inlet duct. Refer to Air Cleaner Inlet Duct Replacement in Engine Controls.
  2. Remove the automatic transaxle range selector cable from the wiring harness clip or strap.

  3. Object Number: 161163  Size: SH
  4. Remove the automatic transaxle range selector cable from the automatic transaxle range selector lever.

  5. Object Number: 161164  Size: SH
  6. Remove the automatic transaxle range selector cable from the automatic transaxle range selector cable bracket.
  7. Remove the automatic transaxle range selector cable from the console shift control. Refer to Range Selector Lever Cable Replacement .
  8. Pull the automatic transaxle range selector cable through the dash from the engine compartment side.

Installation Procedure

Caution: Refer to Automatic Transmission Range Selector Cable Caution in the Preface section.

  1. Insert the automatic transaxle range selector cable through the dash from the engine compartment side.

  2. Object Number: 161164  Size: SH
  3. Install the automatic transaxle range selector cable to the automatic transaxle range selector cable bracket.

  4. Object Number: 161163  Size: SH
  5. Install the automatic transaxle range selector cable to the automatic transaxle range selector lever.
  6. Install the automatic transaxle range selector cable to the wiring harness clip or strap.
  7. Install the automatic transaxle range selector cable to the console shift control. Refer to Range Selector Lever Cable Replacement .
  8. Adjust the automatic transaxle range selector cable. Refer to Range Selector Lever Cable Replacement and/or Range Selector Lever Cable Adjustment .
  9. Install the throttle body air inlet duct. Refer to Air Cleaner Inlet Duct Replacement in Engine Controls.

Range Selector Lever Cable Replacement At PNP Switch - 3.5L V6 LX5

Removal Procedure

Caution: Refer to Automatic Transmission Range Selector Cable Caution in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 293975  Size: SH
  1. Remove the throttle body air inlet duct. Refer to Air Cleaner Inlet Duct Replacement with 3.5 and refer to engine controls for 3.8 in Engine Controls.
  2. Remove the automatic transaxle range selector cable from the wiring harness clip or strap.

  3. Object Number: 161163  Size: SH
  4. Remove the automatic transaxle range selector cable from the automatic transaxle range selector lever.

  5. Object Number: 161164  Size: SH
  6. Remove the automatic transaxle range selector cable from the automatic transaxle range selector cable bracket.
  7. Remove the automatic transaxle range selector cable from the console shift control. Refer to Range Selector Lever Cable Replacement
  8. Pull the automatic transaxle range selector cable through the dash from the engine compartment side.

Installation Procedure

Caution: Refer to Automatic Transmission Range Selector Cable Caution in the Preface section.

  1. Insert the automatic transaxle range selector cable through the dash from the engine compartment side.

  2. Object Number: 161164  Size: SH
  3. Install the automatic transaxle range selector cable to the automatic transaxle range selector cable bracket.

  4. Object Number: 161163  Size: SH
  5. Install the automatic transaxle range selector cable to the automatic transaxle range selector lever.
  6. Install the automatic transaxle range selector cable to the wiring harness clip or strap.
  7. Install the automatic transaxle range selector cable to the console shift control. Refer to Range Selector Lever Cable Replacement .
  8. Adjust the automatic transaxle range selector cable. Refer to Range Selector Lever Cable Replacement and/or Range Selector Lever Cable Adjustment .

  10. Install the throttle body air inlet duct. Refer to Air Cleaner Inlet Duct Replacement in Engine Controls.

Range Selector Lever Cable Replacement At Shift Control -3800 V6 L36

Removal Procedure

Caution: Refer to Automatic Transmission Range Selector Cable Caution in the Preface section.

  1. Remove the automatic transaxle range selector cable from wiring harness clip(s) or retainer(s) in the engine compartment.
  2. Remove the Front Floor Console. Refer to Front Floor Console Replacement in Instrument panel, Gages and Console.
  3. Pull the carpet back to expose the automatic transaxle range selector cable. Refer to Carpet Retainer Replacement in Interior Trim.
  4. Remove the automatic transaxle range selector cable from retaining clip(s) or retainer(s) in the passenger compartment.

  6. Remove the automatic transaxle range selector cable retainer from the console shift control.

  7. Object Number: 161220  Size: SH
  8. Remove the automatic transaxle range selector cable from the console shift control.

  9. Object Number: 161219  Size: SH
  10. Remove the automatic transaxle range selector cable through the hole in the cowl.
  11. Remove the automatic transaxle range selector cable from the PNP switch. Refer to Range Selector Lever Cable Replacement .

  1. Properly route and position the automatic transaxle range selector cable.
  2. Install the automatic transaxle range selector cable to the PNP switch. Refer to Range Selector Lever Cable Replacement .

  3. Object Number: 161219  Size: SH
  4. Install the automatic transaxle range selector cable through the console shift control bracket.

  5. Object Number: 161220  Size: SH
  6. Install the automatic transaxle range selector cable to the console shift control.

  7. Object Number: 161221  Size: SH
  8. Install the automatic transaxle range selector cable retainer to the console shift control.
  9. Install the automatic transaxle range selector cable to retaining clip(s) or retainer(s) in the passenger compartment.
  10. Install the carpet into position. Refer to Front Floor Panel Carpet Replacement in Interior Trim.
  11. Install the console. Refer to Front Floor Console Replacement in Instrument panel, Gages and Console.
  12. Install the automatic transaxle range selector cable to wiring harness clip(s) or retainer(s) in the engine compartment.
  13. Adjust the automatic transaxle range selector cable. Refer to Range Selector Lever Cable Replacement and/or Range Selector Lever Cable Adjustment .

Range Selector Lever Cable Replacement At Shift Control - 3.5L V6 LX5

Removal Procedure

Caution: Refer to Automatic Transmission Range Selector Cable Caution in the Preface section.

  1. Remove the automatic transaxle range selector cable from wiring harness clip(s) or retainer(s) in the engine compartment.
  2. Remove the Front Floor Console. Refer to Front Floor Console Replacement in Instrument panel, Gages and Console.
  3. Pull the carpet back to expose the automatic transaxle range selector cable. Refer to Front Floor Panel Carpet Replacement in Interior Trim.
  4. Remove the automatic transaxle range selector cable from retaining clip(s) or retainer(s) in the passenger compartment.

  6. Remove the automatic transaxle range selector cable retainer from the console shift control.

  7. Object Number: 161220  Size: SH
  8. Remove the automatic transaxle range selector cable from the console shift control.

  10. Remove the automatic transaxle range selector cable through the hole in the cowl.
  11. Remove the automatic transaxle range selector cable from the PNP switch. Refer to Range Selector Lever Cable Replacement with 3.5 and Range Selector Lever Cable Replacement with 3800.

  1. Properly route and position the automatic transaxle range selector cable.
  2. Install the automatic transaxle range selector cable to the PNP switch. Refer to Range Selector Lever Cable Replacement with 3.5 and Range Selector Lever Cable Replacement with 3800.

  3. Object Number: 161219  Size: SH
  4. Install the automatic transaxle range selector cable through the console shift control bracket.

  5. Object Number: 161220  Size: SH
  6. Install the automatic transaxle range selector cable to the console shift control.

  7. Object Number: 161221  Size: SH
  8. Install the automatic transaxle range selector cable retainer to the console shift control.
  9. Install the automatic transaxle range selector cable to retaining clip(s) or retainer(s) in the passenger compartment.
  10. Install the carpet into position. Refer to Front Floor Panel Carpet Replacement in Interior Trim.
  11. Install the Front Floor Console. Refer to Front Floor Console Replacement in Instrument panel, Gages and Console.
  12. Install the automatic transaxle range selector cable to wiring harness clip(s) or retainer(s) in the engine compartment.
  13. Adjust the automatic transaxle range selector cable. Refer to Range Selector Lever Cable Replacement and/or Range Selector Lever Cable Adjustment .

Range Selector Lever Cable Replacement New Cable Installation

Installation Procedure

Caution: Refer to Automatic Transmission Range Selector Cable Caution in the Preface section.

  1. Set the parking brake.
  2. Block the wheels.
  3. Place the transaxle in the Neutral position.
  4. Place the shift control in the Neutral position.
  5. Connect each cable section to the following before connecting the two cable sections:
  6. • To the automatic transaxle range selector lever and shift cable bracket.
    • To the column or the console shift control and retainer or wiring harness clip.

  7. Insert the metal end fitting of the shift control cable into the transaxle cable end.
  8. Use the molded end fittings to push the metal end fitting of the shift control cable and the transaxle cable end together until the metal post snaps into place.

  9. Object Number: 161177  Size: SH
  10. Depress the adjuster clip once. This mobilizes the adjuster housing toward the transaxle end fitting.
  11. Line up the end fittings so they slide together until you feel the parts cam together and lock.

  13. Depress the adjuster clip completely. This locks the cable into its adjusted service position.
  14. Pull the conduit in the opposite direction to assure full system adjustment of the shift cable.

    Important: The horseshoe clip with the tab is flush when fully engaged.

  16. Ensure the conduit is fully engaged.

  18. The horseshoe clip with the tab is not flush when not fully engaged.
  19. Install the shift cable retainer and the wiring harness clip or the wiring harness strap.
