Did you perform the theft deterrent diagnostic system check?

  1. Connect a scan tool to the data link connector.
  2. Record any DTCs present.
  3. Clear the DTCs.
  4. Set the scan tool to the IPC DATA LIST - CRANKLOW function.
  5. Verify that the transaxle is in PARK.
  6. Engage the parking brake.
  7. Turn the ignition switch to the START position.

Does the CRANKLOW read ACTIVE?

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.
  2. Disconnect the PASSLOCK® lock cylinder connector.
  3. Measure the voltage between the connector terminal A and terminal B.

Does the voltage equal the specified value?

B+

Go to Step 5

Backprobe the ignition switch connector C2 between terminal E (Chevrolet) or terminal D (Pontiac) and ground.

Does the CRANKLOW read ACTIVE?

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.
  2. Disconnect the PASSLOCK® lock cylinder connector.
  3. Measure the voltage between the connector terminal C and terminal B.

Does the voltage equal the specified value?

5 V

  1. Disconnect the ignition switch connector C1.
  2. Connect a test light between the connector terminal F (E Pontiac) and B+.

Does the test light illuminate?

Inspect for an open in CKT 1350.

Is CKT 1350 OK?

Check circuits 1459,1836 and 1835 for a short to ground or an open if OK replace instument panel cluster Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gauges, and Console.

Replace the PASSLOCK® lock cylinder. Refer to Ignition Lock Cylinder Replacement - On Vehicle in Steering Wheel and Column.

Replace the ignition switch. Refer to Ignition Switch Assembly - Disassemble - Off Vehicle in Steering Wheel and Column - Tilt.
