Air Conditioning Compressor Replacement LZ9

Preliminary Procedures

  1. Recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging
  2. Remove the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement
  3. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
  4. Disconnect the compressor electricle connector.
  5. Remove the suction hose. Refer to Suction Hose Replacement
  6. Remove the discharge hose. Refer to Discharge Hose Replacement

A/C Compressor Nut

Note: Tighten the A/C compressor mounting nut in sequence shown in graphic.

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

A/C Compressor Stud

Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 8 N·m (71 lb in).

A/C Compressor Bolt (Qty: 2)

Procedure

  1. Tighten the A/C compressor mounting bolts in sequence shown in graphic.
  2. Reposition the CRFM if necessary.

Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

A/C Compressor

Procedure

  1. When replacing the A/C compressor, balance the compressor oil. Refer to
  2. Using the J 39400 Electronic Halogen Leak Detector leak test the A/C compressor fittings.

Note: Install compressor bracket on new compressor.

Note: Use a low viscosity, poly-alkylene glycol (PAG) oil. Use of the incorrect oil can result in compressor failure.

Preliminary Procedure

  1. Recover the refrigerant from the air conditioning (A/C) system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging
  2. Remove the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement
  3. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
  4. Remove the right front tire. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation
  5. Remove the lower air deflector. Refer to Front Air Deflector Replacement
  6. Remove the washer solvent container. Refer to Windshield Washer Solvent Container Replacement
  7. Remove the brake line retaining clips from the engine frame in order to allow the brake lines to move during removal of the A/C compressor.
  8. Note: Seal the compressor suction and discharge ports after the hoses are removed in order to keep contaminants from entering the compressor and oil from draining out of the compressor during removal.

  9. Disconnect the A/C compressor electrical connector.

16 N·m (12 lb ft)

Sealing Washer

Procedure

Remove and discard the sealing washer. Refer to Sealing Washer Replacement

A/C Compressor Discharge Hose Retaining Nut

Tighten
16 N·m (12 lb ft)

Procedure

Remove and discard the sealing washer. Refer to Sealing Washer Replacement

A/C Compressor Retaining Nut

Tighten
25 N·m (18 lb ft)

A/C Compressor Front Retaining Bolt

Tighten
25 N·m (18 lb ft)

A/C Compressor Rear Retaining Bolt

Tighten
25 N·m (18 lb ft)

A/C Compressor Retaining Stud

Tighten
25 N·m (18 lb ft)
