Verify that the Power Seat Does Not Move Forward/Rearward complaint is present.

Does the power seat system operate as described in the system description and operation?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Go to Step 3

  1. Connect a test lamp from the horizontal motor rearward control circuit of the seat horizontal motor to a good ground.
  2. Operate the entire seat REARWARD switch.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 4

  1. Connect a test lamp from the horizontal motor forward control circuit of the seat horizontal motor to a good ground.
  2. Operate the entire seat FORWARD switch.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 5

  1. Disconnect the seat horizontal motor harness connector.
  2. Connect a test lamp between the horizontal motor forward control circuit and the horizontal motor rearward control circuit of the motor harness connector.
  3. Operate the entire seat switch in the FORWARD and REARWARD directions.

Does the test lamp illuminate in both directions?

Test the seat horizontal motor rearward control circuit for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Verify that the Power Seat Does Not Move Forward/Rearward complaint is present.

Does the power seat system operate as described in the system description and operation?

Operate the entire seat switch in the FORWARD and REARWARD directions.

Does the seat horizontal motor run for approximately 1 second then stop?

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  3. With a scan tool, observe the Seat Switches parameter in the Memory Seat Module data list.
  4. Operate the entire seat FORWARD switch.

Does the Seat Switches parameter change state?

  1. With a scan tool, observe the Seat Switches parameter.
  2. Operate the entire seat REARWARD switch.

Does the Seat Switches parameter change state?

  1. Disconnect the seat horizontal motor harness connector.
  2. Connect a test lamp between the horizontal motor forward control circuit and the horizontal motor rearward control circuit of the harness connector.
  3. Operate the entire seat switch in the FORWARD and REARWARD directions.

Does the test lamp illuminate in both directions?

Go to Step 17

  1. Disconnect the seat adjuster switch harness connector.
  2. Connect a 3 amp fused jumper wire from the power seat horizontal forward switch signal circuit of the harness connector to a good ground.
  3. With a scan tool, observe the Seat Switches parameter.

Does the Seat Switches parameter change state?

  1. Disconnect the seat adjuster switch harness connector.
  2. Connect a 3 amp fused jumper wire from the power seat horizontal rearward switch signal circuit of the harness connector to a good ground.
  3. With a scan tool, observe the Seat Switches parameter.

Does the Seat Switches parameter change state?

Test the driver seat horizontal motor forward control circuit between the memory seat module and the horizontal motor for a short to ground or an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the driver seat horizontal motor rearward control circuit between the memory seat module and the horizontal motor for a short to ground or an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the power seat horizontal forward switch signal circuit between the seat adjuster switch and the memory seat module for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the memory seat sensor low reference circuit between the memory seat module and the seat horizontal position sensor for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
