Verify that the Lumbar Support Does Not Move In or Out complaint is present.

Does the lumbar support system operate as described in the system description and operation?

Connect a test lamp from the battery positive voltage (B+) circuit of the lumbar horizontal relay to a good ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step  4

Connect a test lamp between the battery positive voltage (B+) circuit of the lumbar horizontal relay and the ground circuit of the lumbar horizontal relay.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Connect a test lamp from the lumbar forward relay control circuit of the lumbar vertical relay to a good ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

  1. With the test lamp still connected from the lumbar forward relay control circuit of the lumbar vertical relay to a good ground.
  2. Operate the lumbar FORWARD switch.

Connect a test lamp from the lumbar rearward relay control circuit of the relay to a good ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

  1. With the test lamp still connected from the lumbar rearward relay control circuit of the relay to a good ground.
  2. Operate the lumbar REARWARD switch.

  1. Connect a test lamp between the lumbar motor forward control circuit and the lumbar motor rearward control circuit of the lumbar horizontal relay.
  2. Operate the lumbar switch in the FORWARD and REARWARD directions.

Does the test lamp illuminate in both directions?

Test the lumbar forward relay control circuit between the lumbar horizontal relay and the lumbar switch for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Verify that the Lumbar Support Does Not Move In or Out complaint is present.

Does the lumbar support system operate as described in the system description and operation?

Operate the lumbar switch in the FORWARD and REARWARD directions.

Does the lumbar horizontal motor run for approximately 1 second then stop?

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  3. With a scan tool, observe the Lumbar Switches parameter in the Memory Seat Module data list.
  4. Operate the lumbar FORWARD switch.

Does the Lumbar Switches parameter change state?

  1. With a scan tool, observe the Lumbar Switches parameter.
  2. Operate the lumbar REARWARD switch.

Does the Lumbar Switches parameter change state?

  1. Disconnect the lumbar horizontal motor harness connector.
  2. Connect a test lamp between the lumbar motor forward control circuit and the lumbar motor rearward control circuit of the harness connector.
  3. Operate the lumbar switch in the FORWARD and REARWARD directions.

Did the test lamp illuminate in both directions?

Go to Step 17

  1. Disconnect the lumbar switch harness connector.
  2. Connect a 3 amp fused jumper wire from the driver seat lumbar forward switch signal circuit of the switch connector to a good ground.
  3. With a scan tool, observe the Seat Lumbar Forward parameter.

Does the Seat Lumbar Forward parameter change state?

  1. Disconnect the lumbar switch harness connector.
  2. Connect a 3 amp fused jumper wire from the driver seat lumbar rearward switch signal circuit of the switch connector to a good ground.
  3. With a scan tool, observe the Seat Lumbar Rearward parameter.

Does the Seat Lumbar Rearward parameter change state?

Test the lumbar forward motor control circuit between the memory seat module and the lumbar horizontal motor for a short to ground or an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
