Water Deflector Replacement Cargo Doors

The water deflectors on all doors serve multiple purposes. The deflectors help to prevent the following conditions:

Water deflectors also help to seal the interior of the vehicle from the intrusion of vehicle exhaust.

All door water deflectors are perforated in order to assist the technician in accessing the interior of the door for service. In some cases, peeling back the deflector will be needed.

The deflector must be properly resealed in order to prevent the intrusion of exhaust gases if the deflector has been either peeled back or removed from the door. The adhesive on the door and the deflector from the factory will usually be adequate in order to re-adhere the deflector to the door if the deflector has been peeled back or removed. If additional adhesive is required, use a small amount of weatherstrip adhesive, such as GM P/N 12345096 or equivalent. Use a cloth reinforced tape with a strong adhesive in order to secure a piece separated at a perforation.

Replace the deflector if the deflector is too badly damaged to provide a proper seal.

1. Remove the trim panel. Refer to Door Trim Panel Replacement .
2. Remove the window garnish molding. Refer to Window Garnish Molding Replacement .
3. Remove the rear speaker, if equipped. Refer to Rear Side Door Garnish Molding Replacement .
4. Use a soft-faced scraper, if needed, in order to peel the water deflector away from the door and separate the deflector from the door.

1. Install the water deflector.
2. Install the rear speaker, if equipped. Refer to Rear Side Door Garnish Molding Replacement .
3. Install the window garnish molding. Refer to Window Garnish Molding Replacement .
4. Install the trim panel. Refer to Door Trim Panel Replacement .
