Compressor Replacement

Removal Procedure

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable from the battery. Refer to

    Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  2. Discharge the air conditioning system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  3. Remove the accessory drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement in Engine Mechanical.
  4. Remove the compressor drive belt.
  5. Drain the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling in Engine Cooling.
  6. Remove the coolant pump. Refer to Coolant Pump Replacement in Engine Cooling.
  7. Disconnect the compressor electrical connector.

    Important: Cap or plug the open compressor hose immediately.

  9. Disconnect the compressor hose from the compressor.

  11. Remove the compressor mounting stud and nut.
  12. Remove the compressor mounting bolts.
  13. Remove the compressor form the vehicle.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 174347  Size: SH
  1. Install the compressor in the vehicle.
  2. Install the compressor mounting stud and nut.
  3. Tighten

        • Tighten the compressor mounting stud to 9 N·m(80 lb in).
        • Tighten the compressor mounting stud nut to 50 N·m(37 lb ft).

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Install the compressor mounting bolts.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the compressor mounting bolts to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

  6. Install the compressor hose and new seal washers.
  7. Coat the new seal washers with clean 525 refrigerant oil.

    Tighten
    Tighten the compressor hose bolt to the compressor to 26 N·m (19 lb in).

  8. Connect the compressor electrical connector.
  9. Install the coolant pump. Refer to Coolant Pump Replacement Engine Cooling.
  10. Install the compressor drive belt.
  11. Install the accessory drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement in Engine Mechanical.
  12. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to

  13. Refill the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling in Engine Cooling.
  14. Evacuate and charge the air conditioning system. Refer to Evacuation and Air Conditioning (A/C) Charging Using ACR4 .

Compressor Bracket Replacement

Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the compressor from the vehicle. Refer to Compressor .
  2. Remove the compressor bracket mounting bolt.
  3. Remove the compressor bracket from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 174359  Size: SH
  1. Install the compressor mounting stud (1).
  2. Install the compressor bracket onto the compressor stud.
  3. Install the compressor bracket mounting bolt.
  4. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.     Tighten
    Tighten the compressor bracket mounting bolt to 50 mm (37 lb ft).

  5. Remove the compressor mounting stud.
