Did you perform the Hydraulic Brake System Description and Operation and perform the necessary inspections?

Go to Step 2

Verify that the Brake Warning indicator is inoperative.

Does the system operate normally?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Go to Step 3

Check the BRAKE warning indicator for operation during the following conditions:

    • Parking brake engaged
    • Brake fluid level is low

Will the indicator illuminate, during any 1 or more of the above conditions?

Go to Step 5

Go to Step 4

Replace the instrument cluster assembly printed circuit. Refer to Printed Instrument Cluster Circuit Replacement .

Is the replacement complete?

Go to Step 24

With the ignition switch in the ON position:

Test cavity 16 of connector C1 of junction block 3 for a short to voltage.

Does the BRAKE indicator illuminate?

Go to Step 7

Go to Step 6

Repair or replace Junction Block 3.

Is the repair/replacement complete?

Go to Step 24

Check cavity 4 of the daytime running lamps (DRL) control module.

Does the BRAKE indicator illuminate?

Go to Step 9

Repair the RED/YEL wire between cavity 16 of connector C1 of junction block 3 and cavity 4 of the DRL control module. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Is the repair complete?

Go to Step 24

Test cavity 14 of the DRL control module for a short to ground condition.

Does the BRAKE indicator illuminate?

Go to Step 11

Replace the DRL control module. Refer to Daytime Running Lights (DRL) Control Module Replacement in Lighting Systems.

Is the repair complete?

Go to Step 24

Using a test lamp check the parking brake switch for a short to ground.

Does the BRAKE indicator illuminate?

Go to Step 13

Repair the RED/BLK wire between the parking brake switch and the daytime running lamp (DRL) control module. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Is the repair complete?

Go to Step 24

Replace the parking brake switch. Refer to Parking Brake Indicator Switch Replacement .

Is the replacement complete?

Go to Step 24

With the ignition switch in the ON position:

Backprobe cavity 16 of connector C3 of junction block 3 .

Does the BRAKE indicator illuminate?

Go to Step 15

Backprobe cavity 3 of connector C3 of junction block 1.

Does the BRAKE indicator illuminate?

Go to Step 17

Repair the RED/YEL wire between cavity 16 of connector C3 of junction block 3 and cavity 3 of connector C3 of junction block 1. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Is the repair complete?

Go to Step 24

Check cavity 5 of connector C2 of junction block 1 with a Fused Jumper Wire.

Does the BRAKE indicator illuminate?

Go to Step 19

Repair/replace junction block 1.

Is the repair/replacement complete?

Check cavity 1 of the brake fluid level switch.

Does the BRAKE indicator illuminate?

Go to Step 21

Repair the RED/YEL wire between cavity 5 of connector C2 of junction block 1 and cavity 1 of the brake fluid level switch. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Is the repair complete?

Go to Step 24

With a low brake fluid condition, check cavity 2 of the brake fluid level switch.

Does the BRAKE indicator illuminate?

Go to Step 22

Replace the brake fluid level switch. Refer to Master Cylinder Reservoir Replacement .

Is the replacement complete?

Go to Step 24

Repair the WHT/BLK wire between the brake fluid level switch and G103. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
