Instrument Panel Trim Pad Replacement Impala

Removal Procedure

  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System in SIR.
  2. Disconnect the battery ground (negative) cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
  3. Remove the LH and RH instrument panel insulator. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Replacement .
  4. Remove the knee bolster brackets to the instrument panel. Refer to Knee Bolster Bracket Replacement .
  5. Remove the inflatable restraint steering wheel module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Replacement in SIR.
  6. Remove the steering wheel. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column - Tilt.
  7. Remove the steering wheel tilt lever. Refer to Tilt Lever Replacement - On Vehicle in Steering Wheel and Column - Tilt.
  8. Remove the steering column trim covers. Refer to Steering Column Trim Cover Replacement - On Vehicle in Steering Wheel and Column - Tilt.
  9. Remove the multifunction switch. Refer to Multifunction Turn Signal Lever Replacement - On Vehicle in Steering Wheel and Column - Tilt.

  10. Object Number: 519536  Size: SH
  11. Remove the RH instrument panel access opening cover.
  12. Remove the instrument panel compartment. Refer to Instrument Panel Compartment Replacement .
  13. Remove the floor console, if equipped. Refer to Front Floor Console Replacement .
  14. Engage the parking brake, if equipped with column shift.
  15. Position the transaxle shift control indicator to 1, if equipped with column shift.
  16. Remove the ignition switch cylinder bezel.
  17. Remove the instrument panel cluster trim plate. Refer to Instrument Panel Cluster Trim Plate Bezel Replacement .
  18. Remove the ignition switch. Refer to Ignition and Start Switch Replacement .
  19. Remove the radio. Refer to Radio Replacement in Entertainment.
  20. Remove the HVAC control assembly. Refer to Control Assembly Replacement in HVAC Systems - Manual.
  21. Remove the headlamp switch. Refer to Headlamp Switch Replacement in Lighting Systems.
  22. Remove the hood release handle. Refer to Hood Primary Latch Release Cable Handle Replacement in Body Front End.
  23. Disconnect the data link connector.
  24. Remove the LH and the RH windshield pillar garnish moldings. Refer to Windshield Pillar Garnish Molding Replacement in Interior Trim.
  25. Remove the defroster grille. Refer to Defroster Grille Replacement .
  26. Remove the instrument panel upper trim pad. Refer to Instrument Panel Upper Trim Pad Replacement .
  27. Remove the remote control door lock receiver module. Refer to Remote Control Door Lock Receiver Replacement in Keyless Entry.
  28. Remove the instrument panel cluster trim plate bezel. Refer to Instrument Panel Cluster Trim Plate Bezel Replacement .
  29. Remove the instrument panel cluster. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement .
  30. Remove the SIR inflator module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Instrument Panel Module Replacement in SIR.
  31. Remove the instrument panel compartment lamp switch. Refer to Instrument Panel Compartment Lamp Replacement in Lighting Systems.

  33. Remove the instrument panel assembly screws in the order indicated in the graphic.
  34. Reposition the instrument panel wiring harness from the instrument panel.
  35. Remove the instrument panel assembly from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 519552  Size: SH
  1. Position the instrument panel assembly to the vehicle.
  2. Reposition the instrument panel wiring harness.
  3. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Install the instrument panel trim pad-to-crosscar beam screws in the order indicated in the graphic.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the instrument panel trim pad-to-crosscar beam screws to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  6. Install the instrument panel compartment lamp switch. Refer to Instrument Panel Compartment Lamp Replacement in Lighting Systems.
  7. Install the SIR inflator module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Instrument Panel Module Replacement in SIR.
  8. Install the instrument panel cluster. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement .

  9. Object Number: 519561  Size: SH
  10. Install the instrument panel trim pad-to-instrument panel compartment bracket screws.
  11. Tighten
    Tighten the instrument panel trim pad-to-instrument panel compartment bracket screws to 2 N·m (18 lb in).

  12. Install the instrument panel upper trim pad. Refer to Instrument Panel Upper Trim Pad Replacement .
  13. Install the remote control door lock receiver module. Refer to Remote Control Door Lock Receiver Replacement in Keyless Entry.
  14. Install the defroster grille. Refer to Defroster Grille Replacement .
  15. Install the RH and the LH windshield pillar garnish moldings. Refer to Windshield Pillar Garnish Molding Replacement .
  16. Connect the SIR inflator module electrical connector. Install the SIR inflator module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Instrument Panel Module Replacement in SIR.
  17. Install the data link connector.
  18. Install the hood release handle. Refer to Hood Primary Latch Release Cable Handle Replacement in Body Front End.
  19. Install the headlamp switch. Refer to Headlamp Switch Replacement in Lighting Systems.
  20. Install the HVAC control assembly. Refer to Control Assembly Replacement in HVAC Systems - Manual.
  21. Install the radio. Refer to Radio Replacement in Entertainment.
  22. Install the ignition switch. Refer to Ignition and Start Switch Replacement .
  23. Install the instrument panel cluster trim plate. Refer to Instrument Panel Cluster Trim Plate Bezel Replacement .

  25. Install the ignition switch cylinder bezel.
  26. Position the transaxle shift control indicator to Park.
  27. Release the parking brake.
  28. Install the multifunction switch. Refer to Multifunction Turn Signal Lever Replacement - On Vehicle in Steering Wheel and Column - Tilt.
  29. Install the steering column trim covers. Refer to Steering Column Trim Cover Replacement - On Vehicle in Steering Wheel and Column - Tilt.
  30. Install the steering wheel tilt lever. Refer to Tilt Lever Replacement - On Vehicle in Steering Wheel and Column - Tilt.
  31. Install the steering wheel. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column - Tilt.
  32. Install the steering wheel SIR inflator module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Replacement in SIR.
  33. Install the floor console, if equipped. Refer to Front Floor Console Replacement .
  34. Install the instrument panel compartment. Refer to Instrument Panel Compartment Replacement .

  36. Install the RH instrument panel fuse block access opening cover.
  37. Install the knee bolster brackets to the instrument panel. Refer to Knee Bolster Bracket Replacement .
  38. Install steering column opening filler panel to the instrument panel lower trim panel. Refer to Steering Column Opening Filler Replacement .
  39. Install the LH and RH instrument panel insulator. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Replacement .
  40. Enable the SIR system. Refer to Enabling the SIR System in SIR.
  41. Connect the battery ground (negative) cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.

Instrument Panel Trim Pad Replacement Monte Carlo

Removal Procedure

  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System in SIR.
  2. Disconnect the battery ground (negative) cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
  3. Remove the LH and RH instrument panel insulator. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Replacement .
  4. Remove the steering column filler panel. Refer to Steering Column Opening Filler Replacement .
  5. Remove the knee bolster brackets to the instrument panel. Refer to Knee Bolster Bracket Replacement .
  6. Remove the inflatable restraint steering wheel module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Replacement in SIR.
  7. Remove the steering wheel tilt lever. Refer to Tilt Lever Replacement - On Vehicle in Steering Wheel and Column - Tilt.
  8. Remove the steering wheel. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column - Tilt.
  9. Remove the steering column shrouds. Refer to Steering Column Trim Cover Replacement - On Vehicle in Steering Wheel and Column - Tilt.
  10. Remove the instrument panel cluster trim plate bezel. Refer to Instrument Panel Cluster Trim Plate Bezel Replacement .
  11. Remove the ignition switch. Refer to Ignition and Start Switch Replacement .
  12. Remove the radio system. Refer to Radio Replacement in Entertainment.
  13. Remove the HVAC control assembly. Refer to Control Assembly Replacement in HVAC Systems - Manual.

  15. Disconnect the floor console storage bin lamp, if equipped.
  16. Remove the headlamp switch. Refer to Headlamp Switch Replacement in Lighting Systems.
  17. Remove the hood release handle. Refer to Hood Primary Latch Release Cable Handle Replacement .
  18. Disconnect the data link connector.
  19. Remove the instrument cluster. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement .
  20. Disconnect and reposition the LH fuse block wiring harness.
  21. Remove the LH and the RH windshield pillar garnish moldings. Refer to Windshield Pillar Garnish Molding Replacement
  22. in Interior Trim.

  23. Remove the defroster grille. Refer to Defroster Grille Replacement .
  24. Remove the instrument panel compartment. Refer to Instrument Panel Compartment Replacement .
  25. Disconnect the instrument panel compartment lamp switch. Refer to Instrument Panel Compartment Lamp Replacement in Lighting Systems.
  26. Remove the right upper instrument panel trim panel. Remove the right lower instrument panel trim panel. Refer to Instrument Panel Trim Panel Replacement - Right Side
  27. Remove the instrument panel upper trim pad. Refer to Instrument Panel Upper Trim Pad Replacement .
  28. Remove the remote control door lock receiver module. Refer to Remote Control Door Lock Receiver Replacement in Keyless Entry.
  29. Remove the inflatable restraint instrument panel module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Instrument Panel Module Replacement in SIR.
  30. Disconnect and reposition the RH instrument panel fuse block wiring harness.

  32. Remove the small instrument panel trim pad screws.

  33. Object Number: 580719  Size: SH
  34. Remove the large instrument panel trim pad screws in the order shown in the graphic.
  35. Reposition the instrument panel wiring harness from the instrument panel.
  36. Remove the instrument panel trim pad from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 580719  Size: SH
  1. Position the instrument panel trim pad to the vehicle.
  2. Position the instrument panel wiring harness to the original location on the instrument panel assembly.
  3. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.   4. Install the large instrument panel trim pad screws in the order shown in the graphic.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the large instrument panel trim pad screws to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  6. Install the small instrument panel trim pad screws.
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the small instrument panel trim pad screws to 2 N·m (18 lb in).

  8. Connect the RH instrument panel fuse block wiring harness.
  9. Install the inflatable restraint instrument panel module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Instrument Panel Module Replacement in SIR.
  10. Install the remote control door lock receiver module. Refer to Remote Control Door Lock Receiver Replacement in Keyless Entry.
  11. Install the instrument panel upper trim pad. Refer to Instrument Panel Upper Trim Pad Replacement .
  12. Install the defroster grille. Refer to Defroster Grille Replacement .
  13. Install the right lower instrument panel trim panel. Refer to Instrument Panel Trim Panel Replacement - Right Side .
  14. Install the right upper instrument panel trim panel. Refer to Instrument Panel Trim Panel Replacement - Right Side .
  15. Connect the instrument panel compartment lamp switch. Refer to Instrument Panel Compartment Lamp Replacement in Lighting Systems.
  16. Install the instrument panel compartment. Refer to Instrument Panel Compartment Replacement .
  17. Connect the LH fuse block wiring harness.
  18. Install the RH and the LH windshield pillar garnish moldings. Refer to Windshield Pillar Garnish Molding Replacement in Interior Trim.
  19. Install the instrument cluster. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement .
  20. Connect the data link connector.
  21. Tighten
    Tighten the data link connector bolts to 2 N·m (18 lb in).

  22. Install the hood release handle. Refer to Hood Primary Latch Release Cable Handle Replacement in Body Front End .
  23. Install the headlamp switch. Refer to Headlamp Switch Replacement in Lighting Systems.

  25. Connect the floor console storage bin lamp, if equipped.

  27. Install the radio. Refer to Radio Replacement in Entertainment.
  28. Position the ignition switch to the instrument panel.
  29. Install the ignition switch bolts.
  30. Tighten
    Tighten ignition switch bolts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  31. Install the instrument panel cluster trim plate bezel. Refer to Instrument Panel Cluster Trim Plate Bezel Replacement .
  32. Install the steering wheel. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column - Tilt.
  33. Install the steering column covers.
  34. Install the steering wheel tilt lever. Refer to Tilt Lever Replacement - On Vehicle in Steering Wheel and Column - Tilt.
  35. Install the inflatable restraint steering wheel module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Replacement in SIR.
  36. Install the knee bolster brackets to the instrument panel. Refer to Knee Bolster Bracket Replacement .
  37. Install the steering column opening filler panel. Refer to Steering Column Opening Filler Replacement .
  38. Install the LH and RH instrument panel insulator. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Replacement .
  39. Enable the SIR system. Refer to Enabling the SIR System in SIR.
  40. Connect the battery ground (negative) cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
