Instrument Panel Trim Pad Replacement Impala
Removal Procedure
- Disable the SIR system. Refer to
Disabling the SIR System
in SIR.
- Disconnect the battery ground (negative) cable. Refer to
Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection

- Remove the LH and RH instrument panel insulator. Refer to
Instrument Panel Insulator Replacement
.
- Remove the knee bolster brackets to the instrument panel. Refer
to
Knee Bolster Bracket Replacement
.
- Remove the inflatable restraint steering wheel module. Refer to
Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Replacement
in SIR.
- Remove the steering wheel. Refer to
Steering Wheel Replacement

Tilt.
- Remove the steering wheel tilt lever. Refer to

- Tilt.
- Remove the steering column trim covers. Refer to

- Remove the multifunction switch. Refer to

- Remove the RH instrument
panel access opening cover.
- Remove the instrument panel compartment. Refer to
Instrument Panel Compartment Replacement
.
- Remove the floor console, if equipped. Refer to
Front Floor Console Replacement
.
- Engage the parking brake, if equipped with column shift.
- Position the transaxle shift control indicator to 1, if equipped
with column shift.
- Remove the ignition switch cylinder bezel.
- Remove the instrument panel cluster trim plate. Refer to
Instrument Panel Cluster Trim Plate Bezel Replacement
.
- Remove the ignition switch. Refer to
Ignition and Start Switch Replacement
.
- Remove the radio. Refer to
Radio Replacement
in Entertainment.
- Remove the HVAC control assembly. Refer to
Control Assembly Replacement
in HVAC Systems - Manual.
- Remove the headlamp switch. Refer to
Headlamp Switch Replacement
in Lighting Systems.
- Remove the hood release handle. Refer to
Hood Primary Latch Release Cable Handle Replacement
in Body Front End.
- Disconnect the data link connector.
- Remove the LH and the RH windshield pillar garnish moldings. Refer
to
Windshield Pillar Garnish Molding Replacement
in Interior Trim.
- Remove the defroster grille. Refer to
Defroster Grille Replacement
.
- Remove the instrument panel upper trim pad. Refer to
Instrument Panel Upper Trim Pad Replacement
.
- Remove the remote control door lock receiver module. Refer to
Remote Control Door Lock Receiver Replacement
in Keyless Entry.
- Remove the instrument panel cluster trim plate bezel. Refer to
Instrument Panel Cluster Trim Plate Bezel Replacement
.
- Remove the instrument panel cluster. Refer to
Instrument Cluster Replacement
.
- Remove the SIR inflator module. Refer to
Inflatable Restraint Instrument Panel Module Replacement
in SIR.
- Remove the instrument panel compartment lamp switch. Refer to
Instrument Panel Compartment Lamp Replacement
in Lighting Systems.
- Remove the instrument
panel assembly screws in the order indicated in the graphic.
- Reposition the instrument panel wiring harness from the instrument
panel.
- Remove the instrument panel assembly from the vehicle.
Installation Procedure
- Position the instrument
panel assembly to the vehicle.
- Reposition the instrument panel wiring harness.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the instrument
panel trim pad-to-crosscar beam screws in the order indicated in the graphic.
Tighten
Tighten the instrument panel trim pad-to-crosscar beam screws to 10 N·m
(89 lb in).
- Install the instrument panel compartment lamp switch. Refer to
Instrument Panel Compartment Lamp Replacement
in Lighting Systems.
- Install the SIR inflator module. Refer to
Inflatable Restraint Instrument Panel Module Replacement
in SIR.
- Install the instrument panel cluster. Refer to
Instrument Cluster Replacement
.
- Install the instrument
panel trim pad-to-instrument panel compartment bracket screws.
Tighten
Tighten the instrument panel trim pad-to-instrument panel compartment
bracket screws to 2 N·m (18 lb in).
- Install the instrument panel upper trim pad. Refer to
Instrument Panel Upper Trim Pad Replacement
.
- Install the remote control door lock receiver module. Refer to
Remote Control Door Lock Receiver Replacement
in Keyless Entry.
- Install the defroster grille. Refer to
Defroster Grille Replacement
.
- Install the RH and the LH windshield pillar garnish moldings.
Refer to
Windshield Pillar Garnish Molding Replacement
.
- Connect the SIR inflator module electrical connector. Install
the SIR inflator module. Refer to
Inflatable Restraint Instrument Panel Module Replacement
in SIR.
- Install the data link connector.
- Install the hood release handle. Refer to
Hood Primary Latch Release Cable Handle Replacement
in Body Front End.
- Install the headlamp switch. Refer to
Headlamp Switch Replacement
in Lighting Systems.
- Install the HVAC control assembly. Refer to
Control Assembly Replacement
in HVAC Systems - Manual.
- Install the radio. Refer to
Radio Replacement
in Entertainment.
- Install the ignition switch. Refer to

- Install the instrument panel cluster trim plate. Refer to

- Install the ignition switch
cylinder bezel.
- Position the transaxle shift control indicator to Park.
- Release the parking brake.
- Install the multifunction switch. Refer to

- Install the steering column trim covers. Refer to

- Install the RH instrument

- Disconnect the data link connector.
- Remove the instrument cluster. Refer to

- Disconnect and reposition the LH fuse block wiring harness.
- Remove the LH and the RH windshield pillar garnish moldings. Refer

- Remove the defroster grille. Refer to

- Remove the instrument panel compartment. Refer to

- Disconnect the instrument panel compartment lamp switch. Refer

- Remove the right upper instrument panel trim panel. Remove the
right lower instrument panel trim panel. Refer to

- Remove the instrument panel upper trim pad. Refer to
Instrument Panel Upper Trim Pad Replacement
.
- Remove the remote control door lock receiver module. Refer to
Remote Control Door Lock Receiver Replacement
in Keyless Entry.
- Remove the inflatable restraint instrument panel module. Refer
to
Inflatable Restraint Instrument Panel Module Replacement
in SIR.
- Disconnect and reposition the RH instrument panel fuse block wiring
harness.
- Remove the small instrument
panel trim pad screws.
- Remove the large instrument
panel trim pad screws in the order shown in the graphic.
- Reposition the instrument panel wiring harness from the instrument
panel.
- Remove the instrument panel trim pad from the vehicle.
Installation Procedure
- Position the instrument
panel trim pad to the vehicle.
- Position the instrument panel wiring harness to the original location
on the instrument panel assembly.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring

Tighten the large instrument panel trim pad screws to 10 N·m

- Install the small instrument
panel trim pad screws.
Tighten
Tighten the small instrument panel trim pad screws to 2 N·m
(18 lb in).
- Connect the RH instrument panel fuse block wiring harness.
- Install the inflatable restraint instrument panel module. Refer
to
Inflatable Restraint Instrument Panel Module Replacement
in SIR.
- Install the remote control door lock receiver module. Refer to
Remote Control Door Lock Receiver Replacement
in Keyless Entry.
- Install the instrument panel upper trim pad. Refer to
Instrument Panel Upper Trim Pad Replacement
.
- Install the defroster grille. Refer to
Defroster Grille Replacement
.
- Install the right lower instrument panel trim panel. Refer to

.
- Install the right upper instrument panel trim panel. Refer to

- Connect the instrument panel compartment lamp switch. Refer to

- Install the instrument panel compartment. Refer to

- Connect the LH fuse block wiring harness.
- Install the RH and the LH windshield pillar garnish moldings.

- Install the instrument cluster. Refer to

- Connect the data link connector.
Tighten
Tighten the data link connector bolts to 2 N·m (18 lb in).

- Connect the floor console

Tighten

- Install the steering wheel. Refer to

- Install the steering column covers.
