  1. Turn the ignition switch to RUN.
  2. Close all of the doors.
  3. Unbuckle the safety belt.
  4. Do not apply the park brake.
  5. Disengage the TRACTION OFF switch.
  6. Start the engine.
    • The odometer illuminates (Buick).
    • The gear selector indicator illuminates (Buick).
    • The AIR BAG indicator flashes 7 times.
    • The ANTILOCK indicator illuminates briefly.
    • The BRAKE indicator illuminates briefly (Buick).
    • The BRAKE FLUID indicator illuminates briefly (Oldsmobile).
    • The BRAKE-TO-SHIFT indicator illuminates (Buick).
    • The CHECK OIL LEVEL indicator illuminates briefly (Buick).

Apply the park brake.

Operate the turn signals.

The turn indicators flash with the turn signals.

Turn on the hazard switch.

The hazard indicator flashes.

Turn on the headlights.

    • The instrument panel illumination lamps are illuminated.
    • The instrument cluster display dims to the current dimmer control setting.

Turn on the high beam headlights.

The high beam indicator illuminates.

Adjust the instrument panel dimmer control.

The instrument panel illumination varies.

Open the doors one at a time.

    • The DOOR AJAR indicator illuminates.
    • The appropriate door ajar message displays in the driver information center (DIC) (Oldsmobile)

Press the TRIP RESET (Buick) or the TRIP (Oldsmobile) button.

The trip odometer resets to 0 miles.

Use the scan tool IPC tests in order to select E/M (Buick).

The odometer changes between English and Metric values.

Driver Information Center (DIC) Switch Inoperative

Use a scan tool in order to test for the instrument cluster diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs).

No DTCs are present.

  1. Press the brake pedal.
  2. Shift the vehicle from PARK to NEUTRAL.
  1. The BRAKE-TO-SHIFT indicator turns off (Buick).
  2. The gear position N indicator is illuminated.
