The Interior Lights System Check tests the Body Control Module (BCM) for the operation of the interior lights. For more information regarding other BCM-controlled systems, refer to Body Control System Description in Body Control System.

  1. Turn off the I/P lamp dimmer switch.
  2. Turn off the LH and RH roof rail courtesy/reading lamps.
  3. Turn off the inside rear view mirror reading lamps.
  4. Turn the ignition switch on.
  5. Lower the driver's door window (to prevent lockout).
  6. While observing the courtesy lamps, open and close all the vehicle doors, one door at a time.
    • The courtesy lamps turn on when any door is open.
    • The courtesy lamps fade slowly to off when all doors are closed.

  1. Close all the vehicle doors.
  2. While observing the courtesy lamps, turn the I/P lamp dimmer switch to the DOME position.
  3. Turn off the I/P lamp dimmer switch.
    • The courtesy lamps turn on when the I/P lamp dimmer switch is in the DOME position.
    • The courtesy lamps turn off when the I/P lamp dimmer switch is off

  1. Turn the ignition switch off.
  2. Open a vehicle door for at least 5 seconds, then close the door.
  3. Observe the courtesy lamps.

Delayed illumination feature:

The courtesy lamps turn on for 25 (+/- 2.5) seconds, then turn off after last door is closed.

  1. Make sure the ignition switch is off.
  2. Turn the I/P lamp dimmer switch to the DOME position for at least 20 minutes.

When any of the interior lamps are left on for more than 20 (+/- 2) minutes with the ignition switch off, the interior lights turn off.

NOTE : On vehicles with less than 15 (+/-1.5) total accumulated miles, the interior lamps turn off after 3 minutes (+/- 18 seconds) instead of 20 minutes.

  1. Turn the I/P lamp dimmer switch off.
  2. Turn the ignition switch from off to on, then back to off.
  3. Open a vehicle door for at least 5 seconds, then make sure all vehicle doors are closed.
  4. While observing the courtesy lamps, turn the ignition switch on within 25 seconds after the last door is closed.
  5. Turn the ignition switch off.
  6. Open a vehicle door for at least 5 seconds, then make sure all vehicle doors are closed.
  7. While observing the courtesy lamps, press any power door lock switch to the LOCK position within 25 seconds after the last door is closed.

The delayed illumination feature cancels (turning off the courtesy lamps) when the ignition switch is on, or when pressing LOCK on a power door lock switch.

  1. Close all the vehicle doors.
  2. Turn the ignition switch from off to on, then back to off.
  3. While observing the courtesy lamps, remove the key from the ignition switch.

Exit the lighting feature: The courtesy lamps turn on for 25 (+/- 2.5) seconds upon removing the key from the ignition switch.

  1. Make sure the key is removed from the ignition switch.
  2. Close all the vehicle doors.
  3. While observing the courtesy lamps, press unlock on the keyless entry transmitter.
  4. Wait 40 seconds.
  5. While observing the courtesy lamps, press unlock on the keyless entry transmitter again.
  6. Within 40 seconds after pressing unlock, press lock on the keyless entry transmitter.
    • The courtesy lamps turn on for 40 (+/-4) seconds upon pressing unlock on the keyless entry transmitter.
    • During the 40 second illumination period, the courtesy lamps turn off when pressing lock on the keyless entry transmitter

  1. Close all the vehicle doors.
  2. Make sure the I/P lamp dimmer switch is off.
  3. Turn the ignition switch on.
  4. Turn on, then off the switches for the inside rear view mirror reading lamps.
    • The inside rear view mirror reading lamps turn on when the switches are on.
    • The inside rear view mirror reading lamps turn off when the switches are off.

  1. Close all the vehicle doors.
  2. Make sure the I/P dimmer switch is off.
  3. Make sure the ignition switch is on.
  4. Turn on, then off the switches for the LH and RH roof rail courtesy/reading lamps.
    • The LH and RH roof rail courtesy/reading lamps turn on when the switches are on.
    • The LH and RH roof rail courtesy/reading lamps turn off when the switches are off.

Open, then close the LH and RH sunshade illuminated mirror covers while observing the mirror lamp

    • The LH and RH sunshade illuminated mirror lamps turn on with the mirror cover open.
    • The LH and RH sunshade illuminated mirror lamps turn off with the mirror cover closed.

Open, then close the I/P compartment while observing the I/P compartment lamp

    • The I/P compartment lamp turns on when the I/P compartment is open.
    • The I/P compartment lamp turns off when the I/P compartment is closed.

Open, then close the rear compartment lid while observing the rear compartment lamp

    • The rear compartment lamp turns on when the rear compartment lid is open.
    • The rear compartment lamp turns off when the rear compartment lid is closed.
