- Open the left front side door.
- Observe the courtesy lamps.
- Close the left front side door.
- Place the Hazard Switch in the On position.
- Observe the Hazard lamps.
- Place the Hazard Switch in the Off position.
- Place the Ignition Switch in the Run position.
- Check the Radio for correct time indication.
- Place the Ignition Switch in the Off position.

- Connect a voltmeter between the Battery's positive and negative
terminals.
- Ensure that any aftermarket accessory equipment is de-energized.
- Observe the battery voltage.
- Place the Ignition Switch in the Run position.
- Observe the Battery Indicating Lamp on the Instrument Cluster.
- Observe the Voltmeter indication on the Instrument Cluster.
- Observe the SERVICE ENGINE SOON Malfunction Indicator Lamp on
the Instrument Cluster.
- Place the Ignition Switch in the Off position.

• | The Battery Indicating Lamp on the Instrument Cluster illuminates
with the Ignition Switch in the Run position while the engine is not running. |
• | The Voltmeter indication on the Instrument Cluster indicates within
two volts of the voltmeter indication at the battery. |

- Monitor starter noises as the engine is started.
- Place the Ignition Switch in the Start position.
- Observe the engine's response.
- Release the Ignition Switch when the engine starts or after 15
seconds if the engine does not start.
- Observe the Battery Indicating Lamp on the Instrument Cluster.
- Observe the Voltmeter indication on the Instrument Cluster.
- Observe the SERVICE ENGINE SOON Malfunction Indicator Lamp on
the Instrument Cluster.
- Observe the Tachometer on the Instrument Cluster, if provided.
- Monitor the operation of the Generator.
- Allow the engine to warm up.
- Observe the engine's operation when warm.
- Attempt to operate the air conditioning system, if provided.
- Monitor operation of the A/C Compressor clutch or check for cold
air.
- Place the Ignition Switch in the Off position.

• | The Starter Solenoid engages as the Ignition Key is placed in
the Start position. |
• | The Starter Motor operates without whine before the engine is
running. |
• | The engine starts and operates without significant driveability
symptoms. |
• | The engine operates smoothly when it is warm. |

with the Ignition Switch in the Run position. |
